UEFA considering taking a Champions League final to America

Suppose if there's one season they could have did it, it would have been this one.

No fans allowed in Europe atm, but supporters have been attending sporting events in America. Don't think it's that outlandish considering those circumstances.
Yes, that is a good point.
I would rather that happened this season for both European finals, than that they are played before empty stadiums.

A London final would be ideal. Would surpass Manchester numbers I reckon, partly due to the number of bears down South.
I have always wondered how many Bears there are in London.
I have a fair few as neighbours.
Indeed in my working life I have known loads.

Out of curiosity - does anyone remember the allocation we got for Manchester

(I know the city allocation was 200k)

F*cking ridiculous idea.
The Champions league needs revamped .
Far too many qualifying rounds for clubs from "so called smaller countries".
Everything is geared for clubs from England Germany Italy Spain and France to get to final stages.
Third and fourth placed teams from England Germany Spain etc should be playing more qualifying rounds.
Terrible the amount of qualifying games champions of some lesser countries have to play.
Shocking the amoungt of rounds Rangers had to go through in Europa league.
Get a grip UEFA and stop thinking about f*cking money

Would it really be so expensive? Cheap charter flights. Huge stadium to keep the price of tickets down. More expensive than Spain, but would you rather see the Empire State Building and your old auntie in Buffalo or the Lenin Shipyard?

A set up for Man City, truth be told.

They can shove that right up their arse. Clubs/ fans should mount a legal challenge.

Too late for that, football, particularly European football, is all about money these days.

As a one off concept, taking a final to the USA would be a great idea. Especially for the thousands of Bears out there should we be involved.
What about the thousands over here who spend their hard earned going home & away?

It shouldn't be outwith their reach, which this idea would be for many.

Im saying why are people on here raging at the thought of a CL final in the states when we go by our thousands to the US for a meaningless pre season tournament
I'll tell you why, unlike many of the new football fans who have jumped on the bandwagon when sky came in, they should remember who made the game what it is.

People on here, who obviously have a few bob, saying to fellow fans tough, cause that's what your doing.

I started my travels going to europe on buses as it was the cheapest way to go and affordable, murder journeys, especially on the way back. Cheap flights came into play and changed the landscape. America would cost a fortune and it would be 2 fingers up to the fans for whom football is a way of live, not an expensive hobby for people who were nowhere to be seen back in the day.

The people who run football better be careful that they dont lose the hardcore fans, because if it stops being trendy again, they'll be looking for the punters back, but it might be too late.

Wonder how the yanks will feel if they move the superbowl final to paris or berlin.

Wont be long until one of the big clubs play their home matches somewhere in the Middle East

Footballs a mess

As a one off, I don't have a problem with it. I'd happily pay the premium to go and watch Rangers in a European Final in the US. It would be an incredible experience.

Rangers in a cl final would be a one off for people, that's the problem.

Getting to europe is one thing, planes, trains and automobiles, which it should be. We used to get a cheap flight to paris mainly and travel from there by overnight train. Going to the states woukd take that chance away for many.

The location of Champions' League and Europa League finals is an ongoing issue.

Chelsea couldn't sell out all of their tickets for the 2008 final because it was in Moscow. In 2019 the selection of Baku as host for the EL final, a city with limited transport infrastructure, meant a vastly reduced number of Arsenal and Chelsea fans in attendance. Liverpool and Real Madrid fans had various issues with transport and accommodation for the final in Ukraine. Smaller stadiums obviously mean fewer fans in attendance - I seem to remember Atletico Madrid fans getting fewer than 8000 tickets for their final a few years ago.

The solution to all of this is easy: UEFA should take some of its billion of dollars (I think they're worth something like 4 billion?) and build a fck off stadium of its own, somewhere in Europe, in a city with lots of hotels and transport links. Set out to make it the largest football stadium in the world. Put in as many seats as you can fit - 150,000, 200,000, whatever. Make it the host ground for every Champions' League, Europa League, Conference League and Super Cup final. Hell, play the Euros final there as well.

The only disadvantage is that you don't get to experience the final in a "new" city, but that's negated by the fact that the fans should have experienced lots of away games in different European cities by that point and that, unless you're a Real Madrid fan, it's unlikely you'll be there year in, year out: the last six finals have featured nine different teams.

But it will be. It'll be played to suit US Prime time TV.
Correct, they're not taking it to LA , Vegas or wherever to play it at 3 in the morning to suit a European audience. Also , they are not taking it to the USA and not giving the locals first dibs on the tickets. Its annoying just now how the tickets are distributed, just imagine how angry you'd be if a loudmouth yank got a ticket in front of you. No interest in the game but wanted to be seen at the soccer.

America one year, then it’ll be China the year after, then some Middle Eastern oil rich country the next. UEFA are greedy and corrupt only interested in lining there own pockets

This is the start of the next phase of the overt commercialisation of the sport. Money makes money and if you are not at the table then you fall further and further behind. Expanding the revenue pool is good business practice. The man on the street fans are nothing more than a political necessity. Look closer to home and the % of tickets available to non corporate for cup finals etc.vs the number of season ticket holders and supporter club members. This train has left the station.

It has been suggested.

Although talk of a London NFL franchise has died down.
Can't see the Superbowl ever being outside of USA. Jaguars owner was keen at one point in basing them in London, wonder if he will take it further when we get back to 'normal' times?

So the final of the Premier tournament of one continent is played in another continent. Akin to playing the superbowl at Wembley.

Utter nonsense from UEFA.

The clubs should consider taking football away from UEFA.
Couldn't agree more, too many suits involved. Is it just a jolly boys outing to these people, how can they take it to a Country who don't really like the beautiful game, crazy. I wish the Clubs here would do the same with the SPFL.

Nonsense idea.

The Champions league needs some sort of kick up the arse. People are getting fed up of watching the same teams play each other every year. 5 teams from one country is ridiculous considering how hard they make it for the actual champions of smaller nations.
