UEFA Europa League Prize Money Breakdown & Distribution

Similar to the UEFA Champions League, the prize money received by the clubs is divided into fixed payments based on participation and results, and variable amounts that depend of the value of their TV market. A similar logic can be applied for the Europa League as well. At least for this season.

For the 2020–21 season, the Europa League prize money for group stages awarded a base fee of €2.920,000. A victory in the group pays €570,000 and a draw €190,000. Also, each group winner earns €1,000,000 and each runner-up €500,000. Reaching the knock-out stage triggers additional bonuses: €500,000 for the round of 32, €1,100,000 for the round of 16, €1,500,000 for the quarter-finals and €2,400,000 for the semi-finals. The losing finalists receive €4,500,000 and the champions receive €8,500,000.

The winner of the tournament could walk away with upto €13- 15 million as prize money.

Market pool (€168m)
The estimated available amount of €168m will be distributed according to the proportional value of each TV market represented by the clubs taking part in the UEFA Europa League (group stage onwards). The different market shares will be split among the clubs participating from a given association.

The various amounts distributed from the market pool on a club-by-club basis depend on five factors:

1) the actual final amount in the market pool
2) the composition of the field of clubs participating in the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League
3) the number of clubs from any given association competing in the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League
4) the results of each competing club in the previous season's domestic competitions
5) the performance of each club in the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League

That doesn't have €1.1m participation fee for last 16

Ye obviously their site needs updating. Do you know how much of the market pool we are likely to get?
UEFA haven't released any figure for last season yet but in 2018/19 Celtic received €1,875,895 for reaching the last 32 while our market pool share was €1,109,795 as we only made it to the group stage

Last season they reached last 32 again and we made last 16 I think as a rough guess we have around €2.5m as our share?

Link has some details on how it distributed on that website

One thing is for sure. Once again Gerrard has taken the burden off our directors to dig deeper. As we close in on 55 enormous credit goes out to the men that have allowed a team on the park to compete.

I know our directors do this for the love of the club and for me it does not go unnoticed.

To put the OP in a bit of context. According to our Annual Report our run to this stage last season contributed £20.7m to our turnover (note: that's not profit). That would have included income from 8 home matches. Income we will not have this season. I'm not sure what our income is from a home EL match but I think the previous years Annual Report indicated a profit of circa £700k per home match average (that's from memory only).

That is obviously correct but we also have to remember that the directors have also dug deep to back the manager. It all looks as though we have a plan top to bottom, which will hopefully go from strength to strength with player sales covering new recruits as well as bridging the gap in finances.

If my maths is correct:
€260,000 v Red Imps
€280,000 v Willem II
€300,000 v Galatasaray
€2,920,000 for qualifying
€570,000 x 4 W v Liege & Poznan = €2,280,000
€190,000 x 2 D v Benfica = €380,000
€500,000 = Last 32
€500,000 x 2 W v Antwerp = €1,000,000
€1,100,000 = Last 16
Total so far: €10,020,000 (£8.7m) in prize money

Correct he been given backing to a certain extent based what could be afforded at that time

Ryan Kent was signed on a permanent deal based on what happened on the field

There will be a new payment cycle for the next 3 seasons from next season but based on what is the current Champions League participation fee €15.25m before anything is added on top, it would be game changing financially for the club completing the Champions League

Total so far: €10,020,000 (£8.7m) in prize money
Your maths is out by €1m, plus we never got €300,000 for beating Galatasaray.

However, you missed the redistributed draw income for the group stage of €167,458 and the 10 year co-efficient award of €1,357,170.

Correct total so far is €10,244,628, plus the Market Pool payment, which will likely be somewhere between €2-2.5m.

Getting to the last 8 will be worth another €1.5m if we manage it.

It would appear that our insurance covers us for losses incurred due to the business interruption effects of Covid. If so, I would imagine that Europa gate receipts will be included in any claim and that would be a huge bonus.

It does appear to be that's the case - for last season at least. However, what we do not know is whether our insurance cover rolled over into this season. The Policy could well have expired last Summer if it ran in conjunction with the football seasons.

We simply do not know. Fingers crossed.

Under SG it will be interesting what prize money Rangers and Celtic have generated in total (Over 3 years). Bearing in mind Celtic have had 3 cracks of the Champion League riches.

Maybe something a true Sport reporter could look into.
Erm, would the BBC come into that bracket?

Since reaching the group stage, Rangers have accumulated over £4.5m in European prize money.

More than £3m of that was secured through earning enough points to finish top of their group. A further £430,000 was pocketed for making to the last-32, with another £950,000 coming for reaching the last-16 again.

The guy at the Athletic too busy digging up dirt on Rangers

Maybe our pandemic cover extends to lost gate receipts too.

100% will Im sure, thats what its there for. From europe alone we will get Leverkusen sales. It all depends when and if the policy ran out for this seasons exploits.

Sad but just looked at the poster above who linked what the BBC reported today.

What is progress worth to Rangers?

With the Ibrox club needing fresh investment of £23.2m by the end of next season, any additional revenue will be gratefully received.

Not lies regards more than 4.5m but over 100% out. Pathetic

It took me 5 mins to find that we have earned more than 10m and still are due the pool market share.

How is the TV money worked out, is the money pooled among all the teams or do the individual clubs negotiate their home games independently of Uefa?

Clubs from big countries split the tv money for that country, ie. more cash for bigger countries.

Insurance for when the pandemic hit will cover for 2/3 post event so even if your insurance runs out and you get new insurance the old policy is still claimed.

insurers all Inserted COVID clauses for renewals and went to court recently to fight paying but lost.

I'm aware of that case but don't recall anything at all about it being to do with being able to claim current year costs on policies that had ended or of the possibility to claim for lost income after your policy had expired.

You got a link to a layman's explanation of that? Always happy to be informed, especially on the complex stuff.

Got the RTV money to add for the qualifiers as well. Just a shame no ticket or hospitality money coming in from the run again this season that's 8 home games worth now.

Is this information in the public domain or has BBC Shortbread unearthed another "football finance expert" from the GB ?
