Bury AFC’s Shakers Community, the Rangers Charity Foundation (@RFC_Charity) and the Lee Rigby Foundation (@leerigbyfdn) are delighted to announce their collaboration in a virtual friendly on July 4th at 3:00 pm.

The virtual friendly will feature a Bury Legends team and a Rangers Legends team playing for the Lee Rigby Memorial Trophy.

Covid 19 has disrupted the fundraising efforts of all three organisations with their main fundraisers all being postponed indefinitely. Following some discussions between Bury AFC and Rangers, the virtual friendly was born and the monies raised from this will be split equally between all three parties.

Fans and supporters who which to buy a virtual ticket are being asked to pay what they can spare.

With the monies raised Bury AFC will be investing in improving facilities for their disabled supporters with any additional monies earmarked for other community projects.

The Lee Rigby Foundation will be putting their share towards the purchase of a number of static caravans. These will be available to families who have lost a loved one in military service and for Veterans and their families who need a break.

The Rangers Charity Foundation will use their funds to continue to deliver a diverse range of charitable community programmes from diversity and inclusion to Health and wellbeing, in conjunction with managing the Ibrox Community Hub.

We’re going to ask our users both to donate to the Virtual Friendly match and to choosing the team. Details will follow.

Meanwhile - you can donate using this link! - https://buryafc.uk/donations/virtual-friendly/

Ticket purchased, but it would maybe get more funds if they included using Paypal. Any chance of them adding that Mark?

Three great organisations that will be making good use of the money raised. Tickets from a fiver, so easy for many to do their bit. Proud to support them.

Here‘s a bit more detail on the virtual game. A lot of work has gone into this on both sides, so please share it far and wide. Some great causes will benefit from the monies raised from this, and we both have total respect for Lee Rigby and the foundation that has been set up in his memory, and in case you didn’t know, he is a Bury lad. We just hope that this gets the support we know you Bears can offer.

Info and Donations: Rangers Legends v Bury Legends Virtual Friendly for the Lee Rigby Foundation Trophy

It's great that we can actually watch as an Esports event as well...on all our various devices!

Even more important, for great causes, especially the Lee Rigby Foundation and whilst donations are whatever you can afford...quite a few are going for amounts that mean something, e.g. £19.87 (Lee's year of birth), £20.13 (the year Lee was murdered) or some date/number that means something to you/our clubs, e.g. £18.85 (the year we were formed)...you get the idea.

I've got paid today...so might even go for £47.87 (4/7/87 was Lee's date of birth). But there's no pressure...if someone can only afford a tenner or a fiver or a quid, that's fine. The match is on Saturday, 4th of July (Lee's birthday) at 3pm...

The Mother of murdered soldier Lee Rigby has told how Rangers fans have become “a second family” to her after her son’s death.

Lee's funeral at Bury Parish Church, with a packed Bury town centre (below)...it all fits man.

Thanks to my fellow Shakers for posting already. For my sins I jointly head up the fundraising and commercial section for Bury AFC (entirely voluntary) and I am also a founder member of the first fans board of directors.

The event was born out of a conversation with @seasideshaker that lead to the idea of a virtual friendly with Rangers. We were initially going to raffle off a shirt from the Lee Rigby Foundation Rangers game but after chatting with his mum and hearing the hardship the Covid situation has caused to their fundraising efforts we changed it to make them one of the 3 beneficiaries.

We wouldn't have got this far with out the support of @mdingwall and Rachel at the Charity Foundation so a big thank you to them also.

The minimum donation is a £1 and if you can spare this or any other amount please do. All 3 beneficiaries will put the funds to good use.

thanks for reading
Ian

Unfortunately PayPal isn’t going to happen due to the fees they charge. However it is very easy to donate, in fact probably easier than logging into PayPal!

So who starts, laudrup, gazza, Baxter so many to pick from, remember my Da telling me about slim Jim Baxter
The late great Jim Baxter, Nottingham Forest superstar, who warmed up reading the racing tips. Yeh he is magic, but he said his right foot was for standing on and we sure have some Bury players who can do that
But althogh he is Scotlands finest and even joined the Glasgow fans of all colours
He will be in Lee Dixons pocket
The fact he juggled the ball and took the mickey out of England at Wembley doesnt matter either, as our Colin Bell liked to score against Scotland.
Joking aside, what a majestic player
Respect

We met him at the greyhound racing one night, aye jim liked a wee punt, between him playing keepy uppy and super cooper lobbing it over 5 players before casually stroking into the net , well just saying like

I used to have him on a football card in his Forest kit though, great player
As for Gazza, Vinny Jones showed us how to trap him, not that we are not a flair team by the way. Our Danny Mayor can drift past your team before you know it and he plants the ball in the top corner of the net.
Are there any good Scottish keepers ha ha
Oh yes, Bury born Andy Goram

Our goalkeepers are Dean Keily who was with WBA for a while, and our Ace World Class Neville Southall, so i envisage a clean sheet.
We even had to leave out current England keeper Nick Pope and Denmark's Kasper Schmeikel amongst some other fine Bury goalkeepers

Well you saw the gazza goal against Scotland now you can watch an even better one as this is what super cooper will do ;)

Thanks so much for being part of this really brilliant idea, im sure it is a first.
The Lee Rigby Foundation is such a worthy cause and deserves to be kept in the public awareness, brilliant by everyone concerned to make this work.

That has reminded me of another Scotland star player who we couldn't fit into our squad Bobby Collins
I wanted him picking, for the virtual boos (and the odd virtual missile thrown!) as an ex Hoop, by all the virtual Rangers fans!!!

Can you believe he played 75 times for us? And can anyone spot 'The Wee Barra' (RIP and Glaswegian talk apparently) on our squad photo from 1967/68. It's not as easy...with most players sat down: ;)

Stewart Imlach and Eddie Colquhoun are two other Scotland internationals who we didnt manage to squeeze in our squad.
But the players we had to leave out like Stan Bowles, Sammy McIlroy, Alec Lindsey, George Heslop, all winners, speaks volumes about the Mighty Shakers
