Wales vs Scotland 3-5 All Goals & Highlights ( 1969 British Home Championship )

Wyn Davis, Ron Davis.
Man, they had some great headers of the ball.
I forgot how good Wee Tam was for Killie, that he played for Scotland back in '69.
I love the way the highlights have about 6 cut away's of Alan Gilzean and Ron Davies even though the action before had nothing to do with them!

I remember watching the England, Scotland game on the Wednesday after, eagerly anticipating a good result. We got trounced 4-1 at Wembley. I think Colin (Stein) scored Scotland's with a well placed header.
Possibly Bobby Brown's last match as manager?

Watching this, brought back many memories.
Cheers.

I think you're right. Scotland played N.Ireland during the week at Hampden on a pishy, wet soaking night when only 11,000 turned up. 1-1 with Colin Stein scoring.
We were then gubbed by England later that week 4-1 at Wembley, Colin Stein again scoring our goal.
I watched the game at my grans, it must have been on the Saturday afternoon.

12 years old and I remember watching this game on TV followed by the NI game midweek. It was torrential rain all day and up to the game so it was the TV again.
I was taken down to Wembley for the first time the following weekend for the England game.
Beat 4-1 by a fabulous England team still had a great view of Eddie Grey crossing for Stein's goal just before half time.#
Next Saturday it was 8-0 at Hampden against Cyprus with Stein bagging four.

Changed days.

# I brought back a load of programmes for the game for the programme collectors at school.

I don’t think we beat England home or away from 67-74.

A lot better than meaningless international friendlies that are played now.
Absolutely, they stopped for a reason but football has moved on. The UK is unique in that it has 4 countries under one banner. Any other countries in this position would never have allowed this tournament to just die off.l think the supporters of all the countries would be in favour of the return of the home internationals.

Great squad compared to now, but I think you can see the decline setting in compared to the 50s / earlier 60s.

In essence we were watching the best players in the four home countries going head to head every year.

Bobby Brown managed Scotland until 1971. (I think his last game was against Belgium).

No way was it on live.
It was an experiment for the Home Internationals that year which were being played over a week rather than staggered dates through the previous seasons.
All the games were shown live on TV for the first time which, in addition to the Monsoon weather, accounted for only 7000 odd turning up for NI game at Hampden on the Tuesday night.

that's my recollection from back then also, from memory the only game in the Home Internationals that would be shown live was the yearly game v England, all other games would be highlights only
That is how I remember it as well.the weekend games were shown on a motd type programme.the midweek games would be shown on sportsnight with harry carpenter the presenter.the streets would be empty on the Saturday during the Scotland v England game.

I'll bow to your superior knowledge. If that game was live I certainly don't remember watching it but definitely remember the score. Tommy Lawrence in goals.

John Toshack was the 3rd member of the Welsh air Force that day.

Back in the days when I used to happily travel from West Lothian in the "service bus" to Hampden in all weathers to see Scotland home games. :D
