Wayne Rooney turns down Everton approach

I can see why some of our fans weren't exactly happy with the situation. To be 3 months into one of the biggest seasons in our history and he effectively Surrendered.
Amazes me how angry some fans get that other fans aren’t willing to just forget the manner of his exit.

If he went to Everton he'd be out of work in a few months time. They're a shambles of a team
He's playing the game here, even if Derby get relegated he will still be in demand, if he goes to Everton he could be out on his arse later in the year and no other decent EPL team will touch him.

Being at Derby is win win for Rooney, he can't fail there this season. Going to Everton is poison at the minute. He will move in the summer to a prem team.

I’ve never liked Wayne Rooney, however well done to him for sticking with Derby. His boyhood club, that takes a lot to say no just now. I know he will end up there one day, but fair play to him for staying loyal to Derby til at least the end of the season.

Shame he didn’t show his wife the same loyalty.
I'm sure the money sweetened the deal for her, who worse the adulterer or the person who doesn't care if it happens or not as they are well-taken care off.
Both seem to be getting what they want from each other as they are still together.

Look what happened to Lampard when he left, good choice to stay. Everton seem to be in abit of a state

Absolutely. My point still stands though. He is a rat. And I say that as someone who has made a fair few mistakes in the past myself. He doesn’t seem to learn though.

I suppose it is hard when he's quite a wee ugly guy but will have women throwing themselves at him.

To be fair the hierarchy at Derby stood by him when the press were calling for him to be sacked for another misdemeanour that he had to front up to.
He’s doing a great job for them under the circumstances and hope he keeps them up. Years ahead of him in management to take the bigger job.

Wayne Rooney turned down the chance to talk with Everton about their managerial vacancy because he wants to stay and help Derby out of the mess that threatens their entire existence.

Rooney was on a shortlist of candidates to replace Rafael Benitez.
"Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the job, but I turned them down," said Rooney.

"It was a difficult decision. I believe I will be a Premier League manager and that I am ready for that 100%."

He added: "If that comes with Everton, great. But I have a job at Derby, which is important to me."

Derby have been in administration since September and remain in the relegation zone, eight points from safety.

Everton contacted Rooney's long-time adviser Paul Stretford, who in turn informed the club's administrators that the former England skipper has decided to remain at Pride Park.

Rooney spoke to Derby's administrators before his media conference ahead of Sunday's Championship encounter with Birmingham.

Although he had been given no further information about Thursday's announcement that Derby have been given an extra month to provide the Football League with detail around how they will fund the rest of the season, Rooney did confirm no players would be sold before Monday's transfer deadline.

That news comes amid interest in skipper Tom Lawrence from promotion-chasing Bournemouth.

"I have spoken to Tom," said Rooney. "His agent was speaking with the administrators.

"He is the captain of the club and has had a fantastic season. There is no issue with me and Tom.

"The administrators have assured me he won't be going. That is that."

Rooney repeated his plea for clarity over a preferred bidder for the club, although said the ongoing compensation claims from Middlesbrough and Wycombe, which threaten to land the club with a £60m bill, are "a real stumbling block".

The sense of crisis around Derby has led fans to arrange a protest march to Pride Park from the city centre ahead of Sunday's game, when over 30,000 fans are expected.

"The message to the fans is to keep supporting us," said Rooney. "We will keep working to do our job but the stuff off the field is out of our control.

"We just need assurances this club can move forward as quickly as possible."

Probably a good move. Everton are only going one way.

Plus he's had every Granny in the Merseyside area so he's done his business there.

On the one hand you say well done sticking with Derby - new owners could easily come in and he could be straight out the door.

On the other it shows a bit of common sense from him as Everton is the last job an inexperienced manager like him should be taking and would probably kill his managerial career stone dead.

Evertons job is a poisoned chalice at present anyway, realistically top 10 is their realistic expectation given the emergence of Wolves/Villa/Newcastle

Can’t see Everton getting European football anytime soon
Yeah times are changing with the level of money behind some of the teams now.

True. But he was paying hookers allegedly such as Helen Wood. Anyway, I stand my point but at the same time I can understand people praising him for sticking it out with Derby.
