Went to Man City game

Yeah but city have the space round their stadium to build all these things and i bet they dont have manchester city council throwing a spanner in the works everytime they want to do something

Very much sounds the way forward however Manchester are fortunate they dont have Glasgow City Council nor the SNP to put a spanner in the works.

Eddie Howe has done a fantastic job at Bournemouth and that’s why he gets linked with jobs like the Arsenal one.

Could he keep a squad of world class players happy?

Could he take a player like Sterling as a youngster and mould him into the player he has become?

We simply won’t know until he is given a chance at a Top club
Not sure on that. Most of the squad have been from lg1, championship or lower and he has improved them. But Ibe, and Brad Smith ( Liverpool) Rico ( Leganes ) who all came from higher clubs don't seem to improve much or want to learn. The jury is still out on Solanke, personally I think he is doing ok because, like Joshua King, he was signed as a forward, but is being used in a different role. Others say he hasn't scored, so he is rubbish, it's all opinions.

Jesus, I forgot Alfies countryman Lerma who is a success after coming from a decent team and Billing who has impressed so far, so maybe Eddie is getting there.

I think most folk get annoyed at Man City because the club is used to launder the reputation of its owners.

With regards to the fan zone, they can probably throw our entire transfer budget at their fan zone. They have resources we can only dream of, which makes the comparisons absolutely pointless.

The Etihad was also a purpose built stadium for Commonwealth games and was designed with spectator experience in mind.

That said it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be aiming for something similar. A bar or two, a cafe, a stage for ex player Q@As, decent catering(the company that do the Etihad BBQ are Glasgow based.

It is do able and if done properly would be a decent money spinner for club as well as improving match day experience.

Absolute nonsense.

Yeh they spent all that money putting the academy in place just to aim for mid table.

Increased stadium capacity just to be a Wolves , Everton or a Man Utd ... mid table nothingness

The huge seating area beside the club shop is brilliant. Anfield has a good setup too. Scottish football is light years behind and it doesn’t have to be.

Can’t comment on rancid clubs like that that spunk millions/billions when it could be so much more useful elsewhere, honestly hate city, Chelsea, PSG etc with more than passion

You do realise that fans of the diddy clubs in Scotland say much the same thing about the Dhims and ourselves? Different levels and for slightly different reasons of course. It’s jealousy when you really boil it down.

In fact, if you want to go all ‘socialist’ you could argue that most big clubs around the World ‘spunk millions when it could be so much more useful elsewhere’. At the top level it’s certainly not the ‘working class’ game any more, at least not in the context where you have teenagers earning millions.

Yeah I’d like to see Klopp managing Bournemouth and Conte managing Sheffield United. Be interesting to see if Klopp could take Bournemouth to the CL final.
Klopp got Mainz promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history and got them into Europe. His Dortmund team outperformed massively compared to the budget of Bayern and other top European clubs. Of course he wouldnt get Bournemouth to the CL final but to suggest hes just a money manager is ridiculous.

A bit like some English folk who used to say that about Alex Ferguson, ignoring the fact he did a great job from East Stirling onwards

KDB cross for the first goal must be one of the best deliveries I’ve seen.

World class player.

You picked a decent game for it OP.

I watched the MOTD highlights and Watford could have had zero complaints if it had finished 20-0.

to be fair klopp managed mainz and got them promoted for the first time in their history and then took dortmund from 14th to champions 2 years in a row within 2 years. also picked up some mess that rodgers left there.

Yeah mate like any manager that manages a top club. Stupid argument there’s a reason why they don’t
Hows it a stupid argument ? As other posters have said Klopp managed at a lower level in Germany , it'd be interesting to see if Pep could do the same

Ha ha, not with the money Bournemouth have to spend. I know it is a lot, 100 mill a season but, due to many factors ( size of ground, no traditional large fanbase etc. ) 80 mill of that goes on just PL wages to keep the decent players we have. Bournemouth could never go and sign a Van Dyke for 75 mill for example. That's why I think Howe does such a great job there.

Well, to be fair, Klopp had to work his way up to manage a club like Liverpool, where he has all the money to spend. What he did at Mainz with no money and at Dortmund with limited funds was really impressive and rightfully got him a shot at what he is doing now. I don't think he has anything to prove regarding working with limitations.

I've been twice since the UEFA Cup Final, once in a box for a CL tie (boring beyond belief) and one in the Directors Box (loved the heated, padded seats as it was November).

The Stadium and the campus were purpose built on a wasteland. It was originally for the Commonwealth Games and was developed at at time when Greater Manchester Council were revamping the city and re-introducing the trams.

All of that is before you consider the amount of finanace available with the owners and the four clubs and something like 24 holding companies.

Imagine what we could do with a supportive local authority who support our endeavours, let alone want to be help improve access and transport?

For the record, I thought the fanzone was very average, the club shop expensive and the hospitality not a patch on Arsenal or Wembley.

SuperRangers Lite

Not at all. I’ve taken the kids to the Etihad plenty of times. You want to teach them how to play, be brave and enjoy football then there’s worse places than City.

Anfield lacks atmos for a ‘lesser’ league game too.

It’s a mere statement of fact.

I went to Man City v Watford, the football by city was phenomenal at times, watching the playere movement off the ball was a joy, what I did notice is the fan experience with the fanzone, small football pitch for kids to play, loads of other games for kids to play, interviews with ex players, brass band playing, the fanzone continued after the game also looking back at the highlights of the game that had just been played, Really good set up.

Also the academy stadium (I think that's what it was) is better than most stadiums in the spfl with obviously the excof one or 2.
Great day out.
Run my boys football team and we are taking 30 boys to the man city wolves game in a couple of weeks. Our older age group where there yesterday at the Watford game. Can't wait for it

In a few years time, City will be back challenging mid table - still, with no history.

Mediocre, club.

That is an internet myth. Before the takeover, they had won a European trophy before Liverpool and been champions of England the same number of times as Tottenham Hotspur.
With regards to the fanzone, a lot of City fans don’t like it. Too family orientated and over priced beer. Whenever I’ve been down, I stick to the Piccadilly bars and just walk to the stadium.

I’m going to be honest , I’ve only ever been in the fanzone twice , like most of the lads I know we have pubs that we use in town then taxito ground. I understand it’s brilliant and the time I did go the live band played oasis, m charlatans , the jam and other good cover songs. Never heard of them ever having a brass band.
Also the way the team arrives is brilliant for the kids, teamall come off one by one and introduced to the fans
Still it’s a shame we seem to annoy folk because we have money and no atmosphere at games yet go to 75% of Rangers home games and place is like a library but don’t dare mention that
A library? Even during their self imposed silences the Union Bears alone made more noise that the full Etihad ever has.

I genuinely couldn’t name one Man City song, I’ve never heard you sing a lick

I have no idea why but in England and by the sound of it Sotland too, when you go away you make more noise. Away days just seem so much better atmosphere wise.

Also, look at the crowds they got in the 80s, they were regularly 3rd or 4th highest, even when getting relegated.

Plus 4 FA cups, when it really meant something.

It’s weird how Rangers fans on a Rangers forum slyly slag off Ibrox. God forbid an ex player or anybody else says the same.

I'd like to see Pep manage a mid table side without plenty of money....someone like Southampton....or Real Betis....Werder Breman...be interesting to see how he'd get on compared to his jobs at City, Barca and Bayern.

The Kilmarnock job will be available soon, if Pep doesn’t apply for it to test his skills, he’s a big girls blouse.

I am only talking about the matchday experience, which in this country is shocking. Obviously you can't compare games. The fact it was a great game was a bonus. Everything else about the trip down there was excellent. The really know how to cater for fans (not customers)

Beers aside, which is obviously a legal issue, what could we learn from them would you say?

Treating people as fans, not customers would be a start. The fan zone they have is outstanding. These things cost money but can be done in increments. Obviously GCC will have a say in anything like this so that is a major stumbling block. There are loads of other things that can be done at low cost

In what way are they treating them like fans though? What is it they do? I have heard positive stories of those who have been. I have only been years ago pre-Abu Dhabi cash and certainly wouldn’t go now.

They make you feel welcome. As soon as you walk in you can see there is loads to do and are encouraged to get involved. From what I hear from people who have been a few times, they have things like penalty shoot outs with old players, face painting and wee daft games for kids. They had a band playing when I was down as well. It is just a very welcoming feeling. No idea how you replicate a feeling/vibe mind you!!

Is the concourse much bigger than at Ibrox? I honestly can’t remember but seem to think they have more space. I agree though, our match experience is terrible (aside from the chance to see the club we all love). The club do nothing.

The section of the stadium I was in, the concourse is actually smaller than Ibrox. There isn't really much space at all in all honesty. They should maybe think about a better layout as you cannot get moving for people queing up for food/drinks etc

You mean in the fanzone? How long is it open?

No sorry mate, I actually meant inside the stadium. The fan zone is huge. Not sure when it opens or for how long though. We left at the final whistle which would have been nearly 10pm and the food and drinks trucks were still open

Right, got you. I think they have tons of space outside to host a fanzone. Not sure how it would work if we ever got the go ahead at Ibrox.

I wonder what many in here would have done when we were almost gone and a rich Arab came along in his camel and invested obscene amounts. I wonder if the same folk who ridicule City would have stopped supporting us in disgust

To be honest, at the time I think most of us would have taken anyone. Thankfully it didn't come to that. But I can see your point. Football fans are a fickle lot

Of course it’s too much to expect clubs to stick to the rules.

I'm sure just about all of us who 'follow' another team or are even just into groundhopping would agree that most other top teams match day experience blows Rangers out the water

There's absolutely no masochistic satisfaction to be taken from this.

These other 'top teams' have limitless money to do pretty much whatever they want. As victims of geography, we don't.

We also have a city council that thwarts practically every initiative we suggest. No comparison.

Totally agree. It’s easy to create all this when you have access to the sovereign wealth of an oil state. Sadly we are playing financial catch up to our major rivals. I would rather all funds went on the pitch.
