What Does Alex Ferguson Think?

Given the state of Man United at the minute what type of person is Alex Ferguson:

1) does he think this is brilliant, this shambles goes to show what an outstanding Manager I was.

Or

2) for 26 years I built this football club up and won nearly every trophy going. And you are all fucking it up.

It’s very hard to see at the minute how United can get back to a level competing with City and Liverpool given they are behind the likes of Chelsea etc. And that is with spending an obscene amount of money in the process since Van Gaal came in.

Does it kill Fergie, or does he use it to stroke his own ego?

Point 2 for sure, he is a very pwoud man.

I think the second one.

He built them into a behemoth- arguably the most attractive club in the world for a number of years for players. Yet look at them now.

I'd expect option 2. Up until his ill health he was a director of the club and I understand took the role quite seriously.

I still think he foresaw the massive rebuild that was going to be required as the majority of his team approached retirement and bowed out on a high though.

The fact he is Man U through and through., I’d say it’s option 2 . Kinda reinforces how good a job he actually done there .
Seem to recall, they went 26 years without winning the league prior to him winning it .
Got to say the way there going it could be another 26 years before it happens again.

Anyone would've fucked it up.
Fergie worked miracles with that team prior to Moyes coming in.
It was an impossible task.

Really - they got guys like Stam, Ronaldo, Van Der sar, Van Parsie, cantona, ferdinand

Forgive me for thinking that spending all that money isn’t exactly a miracle

Man United badly need a complete overhaul of how they do things.

It's not just that they have a bad manager and bad players, they have bad processes as well.

If I was a member of the Glazers, first thing I'd do is get on the phone to Paul DiPodesta of the Cleveland Browns and ask him if he's interested in moving to Manchester and taking on a new challenge. That guy has helped to build contenders across multiple sports now. Pay him as a consultant to find out what you're doing wrong at executive level.

Re: him pushing for Moyes. Yes, clearly Moyes is a clown, but the recruitment since Ferguson left has been a shambles and that's not just down to the managers.

Ferguson is in no (or at worst a minimal way) responsible for the mess they are in now.

The issue with Moyes was when he came in, he changed everything. He took a team that was champions to 5th in 1 season while replacing the complete backroom staff. Fergie isnt to blame for Moyes imo, only person moyes can blame is himself.

Point 2 without a doubt.

Pep and Juergen Klopp are undoubtedly the best managers in the EPL at the moment and aren’t going to be going anywhere soon so who else could be available to try and turn Utd round?

Two names that come to mind are either Zidane or Diego Simeone who would waste no time in getting rid of the deadwood but how much would Utd owners be willing to hand over for players?

Regardless...praise the whatever is holy that we have Steven Gerrard.

He will be raging
However he has his share of the blame to take for the mess.

He pushed for Moyes who in turn fucked it up

No matter what manager he picked they would still be in the same mess. The problem is a lack of strategy and direction from the top.

Incredible the amount of money that club have wasted since Fergie’s era ended. Was always a poisoned chalice for the next manager but it’s turned into a revolving door with none capable of getting anywhere near Ferguson’s greatness.

Can't see Oli lasting beyond Xmas tbh. Signing policy seems to be pretty mental for a club supposedly the biggest in the world. Really thought they'd have snapped Bale up this summer and Neymar is availible also. Either of those two show they mean business James and Longstaff on the other hand??

At least we can be sure he’ll never be tempted to go there!

He demanded Moyes mate.

A clown who had won nothing

Teams aren't scared of visiting Old Trafford when before they were more or less beaten before a ball was kicked. That plays a huge factor and Ferguson's intimidation of refs isn't there anymore for a late winning goal. Fergie time was very real.

I have never saw a manager so out of his depth and so unsure of himself like Solskjaer - "Sir Alex did this, Sir Alex did that, in 1997 we did this, in 1999 in the Nou Camp we ..." it's actually cringeworthy listening to him. At no point does he give the impression he's big enough or bold enough to be Man Utd manager. Refusing to park in the manager's spot in the car park because "That's Sir Alex's spot". Taking players to train at the Cliff because they trained there 20 odd year ago. It's skin crawling stuff. You can laugh at other managers banging on about philosophies or visions but it least they're not as bad as this clowns entire managerial gambit of "well, we scored twice in injury time in the Nou Camp anything is possible"

Surely someone as ruthless as Ferguson looks at Solskjaer's wee boy routine and thinks "What a pathetic gimp"

City have Pep. Liverpool have Klopp. Spurs have Poch. Even Arsenal have Emery. Man Utd have a wee boy who wants Sir Alex to give him a cuddle and tell him everything's alright.

Ferguson is not stupid. He abandoned a sinking ship.

A team that just won the EPL with 11 points to spare, and you call them a sinking ship?

Ferguson's last title win was the first time the title had been decided in April since Chelsea were the winners in 2005-06.
It was also only the fourth time in the history of the Premier League that it had been won with at least four games remaining in the season.

Sums up my thoughts perfectly....

I like Sir Alex, but I am certain as I can be he didn't want an immediately successful manager to follow him - I get the impression the ultimate ego element of his personality needed them to falter and take time to recover.

This badly, erm no. I think he is as at a loss as anyone else as to the speed and intensity of the implosion.

"Leading" answers this question

I reckon he will be fucken delighted by it

I both like Ferguson on many levels but also see him as a bit a Champagne socialist twat who likely strokes the top of his wine glass with glee at his own legacy.

May be wrong because I’m not an authority on all things Manchester United but is history not repeating itself here i.e. very successful manager (Matt Busby) leaves followed by a succession of managerial failures culminating in relegation (not saying current team will be relegated) before eventually successful (Ferguson) manager appointed. Who knows given current situation who that next successful manager will be.

I spotted him at the Djokovic match today, he looked really tired, hope his health is good after his recent problems. He will be disappointed with Man Utd over the last 5 years, what the club lack is an identity: what style of football do they wan to play and what type of players do they want to recruit, it has been a bit panicky since he left.

he'll be annoyed at it but I feel he left Man Utd because he knew something like this was coming, maybe not Liverpool but certainly Man City with the amount of wealth behind them

just shows how great a job he did, especially in the later stages when a lot of that last title-winning team was still around when Moyes took over

Man utd and Ferguson didn't plan properly for his departure,,players, coaches and whole management structures,,should have been in place long before his departure,,there is no excuse when you are one of the richest clubs in the world,,the glazers have to take a lot of the blame, and they are still gambling all the time with their managers,,when Jose left they should have took their time and appointed the best manager available, now they have olly, and he'll be a dead man walking soon enough

Agree with you to a certain extent but I believe David gill (think that’s his name) leaving at the same time didn’t help.

I stand to be corrected but there was a complete lack of succession planning by him. He knew he was going and the only thing he wanted was one final title. What happened next season was someone else’s problem.

No matter who stepped up was going to fail.

Imo the start of the slide was caused by him, but he would never have thought the slide would be so drastic

I think they need to do two things, bring in a manager of stature who really wants to build a legacy (poch?) and rip the whole sporting side of the club down and rebuild it using guidance from the best in the game.

I don't think he'll be angry.
I think he'll be heartbroken watching
'his' club falling further and further
down the chute with every manager.

He saw the way the modern game way going. He had ageing squad and realised he'd have to rebuild with the modern player who won't respond to his particular brand of management. He was a proper manager when it was a proper game. One of the few who got to leave on his terms. Bit like Walter 2nd time around.
I don't really buy this. He completely changed his attitude from the 80s to the 2000s. Remember he managed Ronaldo, who still sees him as a father figure. I reckon that was probably a different man management skill to handling Doug Rougvie! He also had to deal with Beckham, and while it may not have ended that well he brought him through and let him go when the time was right.

I think he's one of the few managers who could handle both the old school footballer and the modern type

I'm sure Fergie is disgusted with what MU have since become

But imo what rarely gets mentioned - is just what a shambles he left behind for his successor
I.E. - an ageing team that really needed a major overhaul

The MÙ board thought they could do that on the cheap to begin with Moyes who was never going to instill anything like the commitment, determination or attitude Fergie did & get less than perfect players running through walls for his cause

When they finally did open their wallet they made some quality signings but not always what the team actually needed - they ended up dis-jointed & by then the rot had spread throughout the entire club as successive managers applied sticking plasters which in effect were too little too late

That's how I see it anyway

They've deviated away from everything Ferguson built and are too far gong to revert back to it.

Imagine how Ferguson would have dealt with the Pogba situation?

"Sir" Matt Busby insisted that the subsequent Man U managers, Sexton, McGuinness, Docherty were fellow romanists, irregardless of their track record or competence.
He ruined that period of his club like a pyoor shellick man will ultimately ruin a bowling club.
