What manager could 'fix' Man Utd?

The likes of Klopp and Guardiola probably could, but would never take the job.
Man u still have some of the best players, but getting them to play as a team consistently obviously isn't easy, or they've not had the right mgr.
You wonder who the owners will go for next, but surely has to be a big name with a big reputation along the lines of Zidane, Simeone etc. But would they want the hassle of it?
Who do you think could finally fill Fergies shoes?

They're too far gone to be fixed quickly, it would need to be a 3-5 year plan imo.
I think simeone would be a great choice to do that.

I agree with the choice of Diego Simeone. He would certainly put a rocket up some of the present Utd squad.

He seems to love his present job though and the Athletico fans certainly love him.

What would it take to prise him away from Madrid? Complete control over the direction of the club and nobody telling him who he can and can’t either sign or get rid of. If he ever did decide to manage an EPL club it would be very interesting.

They would need 4 transfer windows at least, would the Man Utd board allow that?

Simeone would get them organised, but would the support buy into his more defensive style of play?

Hopefully they struggle for years imo

United will get lucky sometime with a Manager either by accident or design. They will always be a huge name in world football. When that happens, the saga from Moyes onwards will only be a blip in their history.

You never know. Was it not 26yrs without, before Sir Fuwious won it. And who thought back in the day that LFC would go three decades without winning the league.

How many top managers do you want them to go through? I dont think their problem is managerial as such, its clearly at the top.

They've lost their identity.

They’ve had a couple of top managers prior to Ole. Their problems seem to be higher up (Woodward more than anyone). Other teams know that they will overpay for players and hold out for crazy fees, see Fred, Lindelof and Bailey who cost over 100 million and probably aren’t in the strongest team.

You have to wonder when things will fundamentally change as they are in danger of being left behind. Big sponsors aren’t going to hang around while they are as pish as they as they are just now.

Grim that a player who was playing in the Championship last season is probably their best attacking threat.

The problem at Utd isn’t just the manager, get rid of Woodward and get an actual technical director in place to revamp it. Mourinho had them finishing second with 81 points, 6 months later he was sacked, that’s not just his fault. The players threw him under the bus as they did with LVG and Moyes before that, there’s no authority in the whole club anymore.

Football fans have short memories, mate, and erase from history the bad times when the good times reappear. Anyway, didn't Jose win the Europa League with United ? It goes without saying we'd be euphoric if we won it this year.

It takes more than a manager to sort it out , they have very average players on massive wages and long contracts , would take anyone a few years to get them competing again.

They need a whole new approach, basically they have to go back 30 years and look what Ferguson did,,they have to temporarily lower their expectations, it will take years to sort,,I would give it to Eddie Howe and bring in an experienced dof,,and get rid of woodward

He’s part of the problem as why United have turned out this way, left them with an ageing squad and handpicked Moyes as next manager when Guardiola was sitting on his arse doing nothing.
Ferguson was United and everything they represented. He was almost bigger than the club.

Theres a mentality in United now in which players are happy to pick a big wage up and any new manager has all but failed before he even stepped foot in the door.

Fergie could walk into that job tomorrow and instantly change their fortunes.

It will take someone with type of aura

Probably wouldn’t argue against that, but handpicking Moyes over Guardiola was mental.

That wasn't the case.

"I asked Pep to phone me before he accepted an offer from another club but he didn't and wound up joining Bayern Munich in July 2013.

"When we started the process of looking for my replacement, we established that several very desirable candidates were unavailable.

"It became apparent that Jose Mourinho had given his word to Roman Abramovich that he would return to Chelsea and that Carlo Ancelotti would succeed him at Real Madrid.

"We also knew that Jurgen Klopp was happy at Borussia Dortmund and would be signing a new contract."

Are they the Aberdeen of England? Pulled up by the bootstrings by Fergie then a disaster when he leaves. different level of course. Complete clearout required to rid the poison. Could be a long time to recover.

You must have missed the bit where he was Man Utd manager and imploded and his entire squad and fans turned on him and wanted him gone. He had a go and failed so he’s one name you can cross off the list with hard evidence.

:))

Take a f.uc.king tablet ya mad man.

SAF couldnt fix that fucking mess.

They are in a state that genuinely rivals us in the last decade.
Although that seems like hyperbole, we could put ourselves back on top quite easily with £50m cash.
Given how far behind they are, they’d need about 20 times that.

no one ............ there's not enough top tier players available to make them League Champions in the next 5-7 years

Well tell us how he’d have got them back to the top.....

It’s just seems a “mad” suggestion given he’s actually had a bite at the cherry and failed  There seems to be a determination from some Jose fans to try and paint his stint as a success now, based on how woeful Solskjaer has been, but it doesn’t really work like that, especially when he was the best paid coach in the world and spent the guts of £400m. You definitely don’t conjure up that sort of outlay for an FA Cup or a Europa League trophy.

If they'd kept Ibra and not sacked Jose, they'd have been fine.

Think Ibra really helped with the dressing room mentality and giving the squad respect for Jose, he's said plenty of times they get on well, Pogba was certainly always happy with him around.

Jose also needed more support from the board, he just came out today saying he didn't want Fred. Only reason he took him is because he didn't think the board would get anyone else, he'd also been pretty public about needing a defender. No idea how he came 2nd with the squad he had.

Apart from him I don't think there's that big a selection out there that could do the job, none the fans would be happy with. Ancelotti could be poached from Napoli maybe but that's a bit of a stretch.

Not sure how many matches OS has been in charge, but I would like to see his record v AF at the same stage. In today's managerial climate , AF would have been punted in his first year there.

Their results don’t match the talent they have in that squad. They just look all over the place. A decent manager would expect to finish top 6 with the players they have.

Not going to pretend to hate them like some, but it is satisfying seeing them crash and burn in this fashion. No manager fixes them, the problems at their Club stem from the owners and it won't change until the owners change.

How far you reckon they are from top 6? I know they are a basket case but based on where a team with those resources should be?
