When Spurs come to town

I expect us to come flying out the traps on Sunday. No excuses.

Sadly, I expect the opposite from this team. They are not up for league games for whatever reason.
Brilliant game yesterday but you’re right.

Putting a real marker down will be taking our form into the league and winning our next 3 domestic games comfortably, ahead of Spurs and the League Cup final.

St Johnstone, Killie and Ross County should be a really good opportunity to see what we can do domestically. All poor teams and should be able to put a few goals past them.

Watched the highlights of their game last night and it was pretty mental.

Roma had two goals chalked off for offside and Spurs hit the post and bar a couple of times. Finished 2-2 with Hummels scoring at the death but could have been more for both teams.

Not sure that the fans who will [ay good money to go would be pleased to see a reserve team getting jumped. Play the best team and make as many subs as possible as the game progresses.

Exactly, imagine resting players then going into the cup final on the back of a 6 or 7 bill gubbing!
Very true. Spurs are a very good team, but are also inconsistent this season. They are not unbeatable especially in front of 50,000 at Ibrox.

Imagine beating spurs and what that would do for the confidence going into the scum match.

TBH even if we all click I still think it would be a hard task, I just cannot fathom resting players who have been on the whole poor all season anyway. Build on a good performance and get momentum.

450,000 euro a win
150,000 euro a draw
1,750,000 euro for reaching last 16
2,100,000 euro minimum for league placing in top 8 and increasing by a approx 100k per position
600,000 euro bonus for a top 8 finish

So to summarise, the club can’t afford to rest players for any game

I'm sure all the guys that have fought hard to cement their place in the team would be delighted watching the match from the bench or stands.

Part of the reason players come to us is for big Euro nights at Ibrox, and this is a glory tie. Wee Connor Barron will be counting down the days to that night.

It will be a tough match, but if we bring our Euro form, who knows what might happen. If we rest most if the team as suggested, It would be an absolute mauling.

It depends.

12 months ago I was in favour of writing off Betis for the Aberdeen cup final.

But the mood was very different then.

Clearly the cup final is the priority that week. But I also feel Europe is the priority this season.

And I don’t say that lightly. I didn’t give a shit about Benfica last year. I thought we we’re gonna win the league.

Now I feel those Europa League nights in March/April could be as good as it gets for us this season

I doubt Ange will be resting anyone.

Well no why would he.

They’re not close to automatic qualification yet.

Unlike us they’ll have league cup semi finals and a final in January and February.

They can ill afford to not finish in the top 8.

If anyone is under any illusions - we will be facing Heung-min Son, Solanke, Maddison et al in two weeks

I can’t stand Tottenham, diddy team with money.
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the biggest clubs in English football, and have been throughout living memory. From the half-back line of Bill Nicholson, Alf Ramsey, and Eddie Baily, to the push-and-run team of the 50s, to the double team of 60/61, to the eras of Chivers, Hoddle, Gascoigne, and Kane.

They were the first English club to win the double in the twentieth century. The first British club to win a European trophy, the first to win two different European trophies, and the first to win three European trophies.

Only two English clubs won at least one trophy every decade from the 1950s to the 2000s - Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

When I first discovered them in the 1960s, they were one of the two wealthiest clubs in England, along with Manchester United. If the likes of Man City are the nouveau riche, Man U and Spurs are “old money”. They were easily London’s biggest club in the sixties, and had the best striker, and hottest property in English football in Jimmy Greaves.

They now have the best stadium in England, capacity second only to Man U.

They are about as far from a “diddy” team as you can imagine.

Can rest players over the next 3 games if you really have too, and you pick up as many points as you can as quickly as possible not wait for fixtures you feel are easier....op has had a shocker again im afraid... do understand it has been posted right after ft.

The last time we beat them in a game that mattered came 3 days after a brilliant European result against Braga. Confidence and momentum can be vital in football.
Couldn't agree more.

We are not at a place with this squad where we can afford to set up for a loss, nowhere near it.

Every game has to be full strength and going full tilt for the win. That needs to become the default setting and routine then we could maybe, maybe, look at games (top European teams) with an eye to damage limitation.

This team needs to learn to become winners first. Master that and then we can tinker.

We should play a fell strength team. The test should sharpen the players up for the cup final.

But I would be extremley suprised if we lay a glove on either team we play that week

That was the game where GVB lost some of my support. Although we had a lot of injuries I felt he could have done more to keep things tight and keep the score down. The final score was embarrassing.
An on song Liverpool could stick seven past virtually any team never mind that Rangers team that has James Sands playing at center back with Leon King.

When it got to 3 or 4 we could have sat in a bit more and protected the centre of defence and stopped the ball getting to Sala who was getting far too much space. You could take the view that it didn't matter as we were getting beat anyway but avoiding a record defeat should have meant more and the manager should have done more to avoid it.

Roughly the same Liverpool team beat Manchester United 7-0 in March last year.
I am sure United did everything they could to stop that happening and I’m pretty certain Rangers did exactly the same.
However, as I said, when this Liverpool team get going, they can put 7 past any team.

A lot will depend on what team Spurs pick imho.

Will Ange rest a lot of his big hitters, like he has done in some of the EL games, or, given our history with him and that it is a British derby, will he pick his strongest team ?

C’mon one trophy in a decade makes you barely better than that delusional big club Newcastle. Big stadium? Loads of jersey sales to fat blokes who take them off in the middle of winter? Big clubs win shed loads of trophies ( even in a country which has a two horse race).

The last time they won a league title tv was only available in black and white. And indeed the last time Tottenham won an actual trophy Oasis were still together.

A rich club with a big tradition and support, granted - but still only second to the Arsenal in nearly every respect.

It's the 61st minute, Igamane sends Romero for a hot dog and slots it pasta Vicario to make it 2 nil.

Ibrox starts belting out "Tottenham get battered everywhere they go". Just imagine.

Rest everyone.

Already on 10 points, currently in 8th place with USG at home in the last fixture.

The cup final 3 days later must be out priority.

Rest them all.
Don`t fear them, will be tough but Fulham just drew with them away so not invincible

Think if we can get 2 points from Spurs and Utd then beat the Belgians. That could be enough to make the top 8.
