When there is a colour clash ?

The away team will wear the second strip. Well that what should happen until Chelsea play Watford. The all blue of Chelsea doesn't clash with the yellow and black of Watford so why the all red strip for Watford then ?. Swansea all white , Leicester all blue err no Leicester decide to wear all black ?. I know clubs are trying to shift football tops but FFS. When Leicester are playing Chelsea, Everton, Brighton even Man City wear your "black" strip then.

Are clubs not required to wear their away strips a certain amount of times a year by the manufacturer? Also maybe one of the strips clashed with the refs/goalie?

Sort of this, as far as I am aware. Not sure if it obliged, more the side are entitled to wear it x number of times, so long as it doesn’t then clash?

We wore our third kit last week against St Johnstone when we could have wore the away one.

Both teams at Hampden today in away kits too.

Aye I was confused at the strips they wore today. Hard to distinguish at first as i was just watching the goals and fast forwarding the play.

I stuck it on for 15 mins before the Chelsea game. Amount of replica strips in the crowd that looked like Hampden seats was unreal.

How often can you remember Rangers unnecessarily wearing a second or third choice strip?
Good question. Was there not a thread on this recently or one that gave examples. A few beers in tonight, I am struggling to think. No doubt others will be along soon.

I remember hammering the sheep 5-1 at their midden.
Mols got three, I think.
There's I wee bit in my mind saying both Easter Road and Tynecastle but I can't offer details.

Pretty sure there is a thing that the strips have to get so many outings throughout the season? Not sure on exact numbers though.

Off the top of my head

The orange strip was worn at Ibrox season 02/03 in the first home game.

The lilac strip as worn in a defeat at fir park circa 95

Away strip was worn in a 5-1 win at Pittodrie in 99

Proof once more that our wonderful game is no longer about sport but it's only about maximising money.

I’m surprised that you needed more proof to realise that football is as much about commercialism, as it is about the purity of the game. Rightly or wrongly, if the ability to make money didn’t exist, then “our wonderful game” wouldn’t be where it is today.

We wore our orange one against Dundee at home I'm sure. Not sure if their away kit clashed with our home one and that was the reason.

I think Hivs were deemed to be the home team yesterday and should have been wearing their home kit but as both of the beasts change strips are green they had to change also. I’m guessing the same will happen when they meet at Easter Road.

Honestly, I couldn't give less of a f*ck

People get annoyed by the strangest things on here lol

In Scotland you have to wear your first choice kit in all league games but you are allowed 4 home games where you can wear a different kit, other than that it’s down to kit clashes.

I would think fans would buy our change kit regardless of how many games we wear it.

Personally I think we should be wearing our ‘home’ kit every match unless there is a genuine clash.

I don’t know if this is still the case but the MLS used to have a thing where every teams away strip was to be white so if there was a clash, the away team would just wear an all white kit.

We had to in the 02/03 games v dundee as dundee had the bright idea of bringing out 2 blue kits , we wore white against them at Ibrox later that season.

Can think of quite a few when rangers have done it.

Wore all black v hamilton 10/11
Coming back from 2 down at aberdeen in the same kit

Wearing the light blue 3rd kit away to dundee utd 07?

Wearing white at home to hearts 04? Season

I also recall when we played Inter in the UEFA cup back in the 80's both teams agreed to wear their "home" strips in their away leg. I actually thought that was quite a good idea, being able to see your opponents in their traditional colours.

This is just another feature of the game today, not just second kits, but third kits too. It's all down to commercialism and contractual obligations that the change kit must be worn on a certain number of occasions. The match that's prompted this thread is an egregious example of the curse of modern football.

Now that yu mention it I think I remember the 2ndDundee game at Ibrox. Wasn't it Steven Thompson's debut around Christmas time? Steven MacLean played as well. 3-1?
