Would no live TV games bring crowds back?

It seems that Sky keep telling us what we can and can’t do but can we do without Sky. We could sell a highlights package and play every game on a Saturday at 3.00pm. I think crowds would increase and we would probably lose a few clubs making those that remain more competitive.

if you mean England, why would they bother when they have TV cash.
If in Scotland, i dont think there is much appetite outside us.

I dont think it would help much but i could be wrong

I tend to agree OP. We're creatures of habit and restoring the 3pm Saturday ko across the board would have a positive impact. Only an occasional live game.
Fans are being screwed over by the TV companies dictating when games will be played with ridiculous kick off times at the opposite end of the country.

dingwall on a wednesday night or sunday midday

better players and better football is the only way to get fans back. untill that then theres no real hunger for fans out with us them herts sheep hibs to go see there team. untill we can can get tv deals that alow the smaller teams to spend money there stadiums will always be hawf empty

No I don’t ever not go to a game because there’s football on tv.

I like a game on tele but love football and watching a game in your house are different.

A bit like watching a film in the house and a night out at the pictures.

As strange as it might seem due to the loads of empty seats we are the best for attendances per population in Europe.

No the people who don't bother going to the games would just watch English/German football.

Clubs in the SPFL are charging way too much for ticketing, they need to lower it and entice people back in.
It's an absolute disgrace, it's an eye opener when you go to top game abroad and find out tickets are between 15 and 20€ apart from Madrid or Barcelona, that being said last time in was at a Madrid game tickets were only 35€ that was 2017.

The televised games in Scotland are pretty much our and their away games. These are attended normally to capacity, except where diddy teams like Aberdeen are morons with allocations.

Livingston v Hamilton is already not on the telly, just nobody wants to go and see it.

In all seriousness, the product would be a lot more enjoyable if we could get rid of the teams with plastic parks and no support to speak of.

No.

Why do you think advertisers pay tons of cash for products to be shown on TV?

Exposure.

No.
The TV deal/Sponsorship is worth circa £25m per annum. So you would need to recover that lost money with increased attendances across all the league matches in the season.

Lower leagues would in all probability not be impacted in any way.

Premier League games at Ibrox and the phiggery would likewise not be affected as they are pretty much sold out due to season tickets. Similarly our away games would be unaffected.

This means you would need to recover £25m against 152 fixtures (4 Premier League games x 38). That's approx. £164,500 per game. Allowing for concessions etc and money spent at kiosks and the like that equates to every game attracting between 6 and 7 thousand extra fans to every game. Don't see it.

The thought of a 3.00 pm kick off every Saturday with us being home one week and away the next throughout the season is appealing though

I actually think the TV deal negotiated between SKY and the newly formed SPL back in 1998 struck the right balance. Thirty live matches a season complemented by extensive highlights packages meant that matches involving the Gers with a 3pm Saturday kick off time where still a common occurrence.
Of course to get back to that we'd have to have a skilled negotiator working on behalf of the SPFL and not the man with the 'non midas touch.'

I think people are too used to the amount of football on tv and couldn’t or wouldn’t change their habits of watching. IMO there’s too much of it on tv now

Without a TV deal it's pretty much the end for Scottish football.

The league wouldn't just lose the money that directly comes from TV rights but also sponsorship money would be vastly hit without the exposure live TV brings.

Also the likes of ST Mirren, Ross County etc are not on live TV for 95% of the season but can't really generate bigger gates because of this.

The SPFL will do whatever SKY wants cause it's game over if they don't.

Not that easy.

Clubs charge the current prices because thats what they need to finance football. Motherwell tried cutting prices and signing some bigger name players under John Boyle and it nearly ruined them. If clubs can renegotiate player contracts or can sign new players on cheaper deals then there might be an option to cut ticket prices. If not? Unless you can guarantee an increase in supporter numbers, cutting ticket prices isnt an option. It would bankrupt football.

Due to two clubs. Take them away and it’s appalling.
Here’s Motherwell below who were third.

Dundee United I presume?

They'll bring something when they are winning. That said, I'm looking at that for a successful* season and the crowds outwith the derbies are pitiful for one of the supposed "bigger" clubs.

Once the football is back and they are going through the motions in mid-table the crowds will still be sparse, only getting decent attendances when we (subject to any boycott), the mentally challengeds and perhaps the sheep come to town. They'll also be back to bringing a bus load of supporters to Glasgow when they play us or them when they have nothing to play for.

I wish clubs could just negotiate their own deals and you basically have a season ticket to watch your team home and away. Good deal for us and them but not good for the rest no that I really care for them

The gap between 2nd and 3rd would be 50 points - would make the league even more split.

Im by with sky and bt sports when my contracts are up.
Was on skysports yesterday Bournemouth get 168 million pounds a year from sky,
Rangers and beast fc get 5 between them wtf.
