Would you play for Celtic if you were given a 30k a week contract?

Weirdly, one of my cousins had the opposite issue.

He’s a die hard Tim (I know, can’t choose your family) and his son was a very highly rated youth player.

Rangers offered him a deal…my cousin told him to take it because as much as he couldn’t go us, his son couldn’t afford to turn down the chances of playing for such a big team. And my cousin also went out and bought a Rangers top and got his name on the back of it to wear to the games cause of his boy. Always thought he set a great example doing that.

Sadly the boy was a f*cking bam though and is now in the jail for stabbing someone. Tims be tims.

Also from my own perspective…for £30k a week I’d have enough to retire on after a season. There’s not a chance I’m turning down. I’d be sickened with myself and hate every minute of it…but when I was retired 20 years early and sitting on a beach in Jamaica sipping a cocktail it’d probably take the edge off it.

Yes for sure. I’m 74 just think of the mayhem
“Wtf we’ve just signed a 74 year old Masonic Apprentice Boy who wants to play in goal “

Some folk have standards and morals ,if you sign for them you have none and deserve to be shunned by any decent person .

You don't see that maybe some folk care more for their kids and how they could set them up for life?

I don't see many people on the thread saying "yeah I'd do it so I could be a footballer and get myself a Ferrari."

I actually did knock back the opportunity to coach in their academy twice btw even though it would have been a good move from every other point of view other than pulling that top on.

Girls football obviously not quite as ferocious a rivalry but my mates wee girl plays for them and he's staunch as they come. Ex Army, played in a band, his dad was involved in the UDA, etc. He sees it as the right opportunity for her to make it as a footballer. We slag him but he's proud of her. He's tried to get her to Rangers several times and, despite her being in the national team, they have dragged their heels so she wouldn't switch now.

Setting my kids up on the back of abused children ? No thanks I'll find another way to make sure they succeed in life like getting a decent education and being able to make decent living for themselves instead of getting handouts from me .

I would like to think I have a bit more about me than to sell my soul for coin.

The thought of running out to that lot singing their songs of hate for my kind turns my stomach.

I would rather be raped every day of my life by Ron Jeremy than put that muck on my back.

You can still raise good children with a good education while also setting them up for life and making life more pleasurable for them.

It's hypothetical obviously but my point is that people are saying yes they'd do it to set family up not because they want to play for Celtic or have the footballer life. Most parents will always do things that aren't palatable or even slightly against their morals if it has a positive outcome for their children. I'd pretty much do anything for mine.

Be good if you were a keeper and could do a Barkas. Just concede goals for fun whilst trying to look annoyed and blame the defence. I miss him

i guess if your comfortable sticking that rag on playing in front of fans who hate everything you ever stood/stand for, walking away from family/friends who think your are a turncoat scumbag then good for you but not for me.

I can see the argument for doing it but I couldn’t personally do it myself.

If they were willing to offer me a contract another team would be. Even if it was less wages. I’d play football for way less than that no bother haha.

Some uber staunch on here. That contract would change your life for ever. And that of your family. If could get similar elsewhere I would go elsewhere. But if that was all that was in offer of course I would take it. You look after your family first.

OH wow, the chance to play football for a team whos fans celebrate the killing of my countries soldiers and civilians, or who worship and celebrate terrorist organisations, or who enabled decades of child abuse to go on and then try to hide it, who lie cheat and steal every advantage they can to win, whos fans are truly the scum of the earth?

The chance to play for a team like that? No thanks.

Having a debate with my pals over this
Would you play for your biggest rivals for 30k a week.
3 year contract and you get played in every single game, if you score own goals/play bad on purpose your contract
No. I would never plsy for them because there's no situation that if celtic were offering you 30k a week someone else wouldn't offer you 5-10k and I would rather that. You can say but what if they didn't. It would simply never happen

Absolutely no way. I’d be like Lady MacBeth scrubbing myself in the shower.

Couldn’t face my family or friends either. Even the Tim’s would lose respect for me. Just look at Scott Allan.

No but I’d find it acceptable if someone was to play for a week and take the £30k and donate it to the NSPCC, release a statement highlighting the clubs criminal and sickening history and then quit

Yes.

If I'm a professional player and it's the best offer on the table, then it's a no-brainer.

When I was working, I often didn't like the firm I was working for, but it was a job/stepping stone to something else.
I presume when you watch Rangers you just treat the players as employees running around in Athletic gear?
Cup Final Day and Maeda gets in behind Tav and you’re going to treat the error the same way as Bob in the office emailing the wrong figures. Bollocks, there’s a reason why only the strongest survive at both OF sides, it’s far more than a job and you know it

No, Money doesn't guarantee happiness. Celtic represent everything I detest in life. I grew up with them chanting about the IRA sometimes hours after their latest mass murder.

I knew a guy that did it. He played as a boy for my mates dad's team and I also served him when I worked in the pub. He never got any hassle but I got the impression he was never totally relaxed either. He scored the first goal into the rebuilt Copland Road wearing that rag.

Yes but that wasn't the question.
If you want to stick by the limitations of what was stated in the OP then it's a pointless debate. False situation so why not give a false answer and say no chance I would play for them.

To make it a slightly more realistic situation then you would expect that if celtic were willing to pay £30k per week then you would find another team willing to pay at least £15-£20k. In that case it would again be a no to celtic from me.

No. There is more to life than money and money doesn’t buy happiness. I wouldn’t put myself through the hell of having to suffer those despicable bastards face to face daily. Sharing the same country as them is difficult enough.
A few folk saying it would set up their kids, I’d rather my children were educated and driven enough to provide for themselves. Folk treating it like a lottery win to play for a British murdering terrorist loving, paedophile ring
So bizarre

Every time you are on that beach and you hear a Scottish accent you think " oh fck, here we go again, why didn't I just sign for Southampton or Fulham for £29k per week"

Theres the reason why we didnt sign tims up to Mo.

I’d like to think if the fhilth were willing to pay me 30k a week some other club would be willing to give me a decent wedge,If theirs was the only offer yes,
I’m saying that as someone who never made 30k a year.

I'd take the money, create mayhem, get sent off , claim to have an injury, then sit out the rest of the contract.
After getting paid off, I'd make a miraculous recovery.

30 Grand a week for me to play for them ..................... eh, no.

If I fit into their new signing model, then get your money on Rangers to win ten in a row, no 20 in row.

67 years old, 3 stone overweight, wonky ticker and riddled wi arthritis, mind you I'd probably still have had more to offer than Shane Duffy.
