Zico interview

Was christened "The White Pele" in his homeland, was unlucky not to have made Argentina '78 due to the selection of another in-form player (Reinaldo ?).That Flamengo side regularly played in front of massive crowds including 150,000 in 1983

My first foreign’hero’.
Still amazed that Brazil 82’ team never won the World Cup.
Him and Eder we’re really something special.
They were a very special team, amazing going forward but their defence let them down.

He was superb. But for injuries and the freak show of the Italy game in 82 he’d go down as one of the very best ever.

Good story on the Golazzo podcast illustrating his deadball precision. After moving to Udinese he was doing his free-kick practice and kept rattling the bar. He sought out the groundsman and told him there was something wrong with the goal. The groundsman measured the height of the crossbar and, sure enough, it was a few inches too low.

His all time top 5 players is quite something as well. Interesting that he doesn't have any modern era players in it?

First proper World cup i remember watching. The Brazil team of that era truly were something special. Possibly the greatest team never to win the World Cup. The one player who could have made them number one........ Davie Cooper. ;)
At a time as well when every nation played their own brand of football. Superb stuff
