It has been a big summer for Rangers as manager Philippe Clement looked to build on the foundations he began laying at Ibrox last season, and of course, this time around he had a full summer transfer window to work with – as well as the pre season build to further drill the players, and help get our new arrivals on board and up to speed.

However, it is not unfair to say that it has been a largely disappointing and underwhelming start to the season in both the domestic Premiership campaign, but also our frustrating early exit from the Champions League – and the obvious financial ramifications that dropping into the Europa League will bring. Ahead of the weekend, fans could have been forgiven for trying out a website such as HeadlineCasinos.com and ignoring all things football related, but game days are always a different story.

Fans will be rightly fully focused on quick improvement on the pitch, there looks set to be a major change off the pitch if recent rumours are to be believed. It is being suggested that club chairman John Bennett has targeted St Mirren vice chairman Jim Gillespie to be our new chief executive officer and James Bisgrove’s ultimate replacement.

We have been looking to fill the role since he quit to make the big money move to Saudi Arabia, and 46 year old Gillespie would be an interesting choice as he is an award winning CEO with Renfrewshire care charity The Kibble, and his wealth of boardroom experience has been bolstered by his role at the Paisley club which he took up in 2020.

It is understood by those in the wider world of the media that Gillespie is a lifelong Gers fan, and he naturally already has a good number of contacts within our walls that should see him hit the ground running. The finer points on his contract are said to yet be agreed, and the whole thing is yet to be rudder stamped, but baring any unforeseen late hiccups, it is believed that he will be in place within the next few weeks.

Given everything else that Bennett has been trying to juggle since Bisgrove departed, not least the Ibrox improvement works that have become a major problem with the missed steel order, and undoubtedly has not helped our start to the season as we temporarily rent Hampden, which could never truly replicate the atmosphere at our true home, it will be good to have the boardroom back up to full complement as we look forward to the remainder of the campaign.

Having bounced back from our Dynamo Kyiv disappointment in midweek, this weekends League Cup victory over St Johnstone will have boosted spirits once again, and we already know that we will host Dundee in the quarter final tie next month, but every fan knows that there is significant improvement that can still be made in our overall performance levels, but that should come naturally as our new players begin to fully settle in more.

An Ibrox return should also help drive us on further.

For now though, we simply look for back to back victories to get ourselves truly back on track after the slip ups we have seen.
