It wouldn't surprise me that Ross and the Board would have been one step ahead long before Gerrard made any decision. As he said we are a forward thinking progressive Club. What a difference to have these guys on board. No it doesn’t. The process for our next manager is already underway.
I think we all know succession planning is the remit of almost all DoFs nowadays.
I don’t think anyone seriously expected us to be caught with our trousers down when Gerrard announced he wanted away, but the point I was making that seems to be getting a little lost on some, is that Wilson appears to be hinting that Gerrard’s decision to ‘go and do something else’ was made a good while longer than two weeks ago.
Jeezo!Great interview and clear as day he is saying that Rangers and all modern forward thinking clubs have contingencies and are constantly updating them. Wilson was doing this long before Gerrard decided to leave.
Some amount of folk lacking basic comprehension. We get riled when the media misinterpret interviews and put a negative slant on them, not sure why some on here are doing the same.
That’s how I heard and interpreted the interview.Listen to what he said again.
He could have said, “As part of our succession planning we’ve been tracking a number of potential future Rangers managers for some time so that when Stephen said he wanted to go and do something else, we already had a list of names to turn to.”
But he doesn’t.
I think Wilson chose his words very carefully there.
Finally.RW mentioned he was good friends with Gerrard. I'd imagine there were informal conversations where Gerrard intimated his desire for a fresh challenge, likely at the end of the season. That would have put RW on a more serious alert in terms of looking at viable candidates.
While Gerrard's public utterances have been questionable, privately he's probably been open with RW and the Club.
It is also an important thing he did in doing that.Taking the time to call all staff to inform them of the rats decision is a class act.
I recall seeing Ross Wilson interviewed in his former role at Southampton, when he spoke about the "Black Box" analysis his team performed. He said that as well as having three to four potential players scrutinised in advance for every position, in the event they lose players, this was the same for the Manager role. He actually said it was more important for that role, as a Manager leaving and his Backroom staff can decimate the whole place.
They’ll move onto something else, like a parasite looking for a new hostExcellent work.
Hopefully some of the doom mongers off his back.
That was the move of someone who takes their job seriously and earns the trust of people around him. That is a professional at work, even down to phoning the players and staff to keep the updated, simple things but will mean a lot.
Part of his job is to maintain an up to date list of targets for all players and football-related staff. So when someone leaves, the search is already done and they know the first, second and third choices to replace them.It wouldn't surprise me that Ross and the Board would have been one step ahead long before Gerrard made any decision. As he said we are a forward thinking progressive Club. What a difference to have these guys on board.
Aye....who's watching the watcher. DP.Hope someone has a similar succession plan for Ross Wilson.
It wasn’t out of the blue at all… seems the players saw it, some fans could see it in the press conferences. Is it just me or did Wilson make it sound like the Gerrard announcement wasn't as out the blue as we first thought?
Your having a laugh don’t say anyone’s had a go at him?Excellent work.
Hopefully some of the doom mongers off his back.
He sounds really really excited about GIO joining us!
Yep.Your having a laugh don’t say anyone’s had a go at him?
Frightening.Yep.
I’m sure they’ll be delighted he’s pulled one out the bag here though....
Likely after Malmo, or when the league was won.I think your spot on with this
Yorkshire ?Top work. Compare and contrast to the mentally challengeds drawn out search for a manager.
