30 years tonight we played Marseille

We went on the Nithsdale bus to Marseille was a long journey stayed in a place called Orange the night before the game 3 or 4 bus loads of us was a mad night, great memories, kicked off in the square in the morning before we left with some Marseille fans, guy tried attacking some Bears and ended up getting bottled

Was in the aw one row of the govan front right on the half way line that night got soaked but was worth it what a comeback

Cheats the may have been at the highest level, but still quite the team.

What a contrast to our current side, the 92/93 guys were battered early on but fought back and drew. It set the tone for the campaign, just as much as the capitulation in Amsterdam did this year and Gio's attitude afterwards.

For 76 minutes they absolutely battered us, until Big lazy Miko put in a beautiful cross for goal number one and then slid in won the ball on the Govan Stand side to start the move for the second and the rest is history.

Even then Marseille almost won it at the death with a free kick.

One of the best European teams I’ve seen at Ibrox
Played about with us for 80 mins then we scored 2 late goals to draw
A don’t know why they had to cheat they where that good

Or, devil's advocate, how the Dortmund away win set us up for our run.

Am I correct in saying we were down to that few squad players, we had to have Davie Dodds on the bench, who had retired about 3 years earlier?

I was 11 but it's still one of my most vivid memories of watching Rangers on TV. I remember coming home from my youth club on that Wednesday night to discover we were 2 nil down at HT. I remember thinking we were the best in Scotland but obviously out our depth in Europe - then The Rangers totally proved my young, naive attitude wrong. McSwegan's header was a thing of beauty that I'll never forget (to this day I've never seen so much curl on a header). I loved that Rangers team and that CL campaign really took my obsession for Rangers up to a level it hadn't been before.

I remember it as if it were yesterday. Scary that it's 30 years ago.

The noise in the last 15/20 minutes after McSwegan scored was incredible. Genuine hairs on the back of your neck stuff.

We had this really annoying posh bloke with his mother sitting behind us referring to the cheating bastard's players by their first names. "Oh look mum, there's Alain", "Rudi has just made a spiffing pass, mummy" etc. turgid patter.

Durrant moves into midfield and we somehow get a 2-2. What a night. Probably the greatest Gers comeback I've witnessed. I think Milan went off the boil when Marseille beat them in the final.

30 years tonight we played Marseille

What a team they had - Barthez, Dechampes, Angloma, Dimeco, Boksic, Sauzee, Boli, Abedi Pele, Voller, Casoni.
I was there what a fvcking jaunt that was the police wouldn't let us into the centre of Marseille and took us with a bike escort up into the hills until we left for kick off , also at the game some cvnt through a coin hit me smack on the bridge of my nose
