Rangers eye Angus Gunn as new No1 after goalkeeper axed by Norwich City boss David Wagner

RANGERS are tracking Angus Gunn as they look for a new No 1.

Gers sporting director Ross Wilson knows Gunn from his time at Southampton.

The keeper was axed by new Norwich manager David Wagner when he took charge.

The 27-year-old could head north in the summer as Gers look to sign someone to replace Allan McGregor — who is in line for a recall for their Scottish Cup fifth round clash with Partick Thistle.

McGregor has been rotated with Jon McLaughlin in recent weeks, while Gers boss Michael Beale has indicated Robby McCrorie will get a chance before the end of the season.

Gunn could also put himself in the frame for the Scotland team as he is open to playing for the land of his father Bryan after previously turning out for England youth teams.

I’m not entirely sure a guy not deemed good enough at Norwich is the best fit to replace one of our greatest goalkeepers ever.
A guy not good enough for Wigan lifted 55 and reached a Europa League final, scoring in near enough every game on the way from right back. It's a case of right player, right team, right club, right time for a lot of them.

Same height as Joe Hart and we could probably be doing with a taller goalie what’s he like with the ball at his feet and passing ?

When McGregor came back he was 36 and had just finished 18th out of 24 teams in the Championship with Hull.

And I love McGregor BTW.
While this is absolutely correct, he had already proven himself as a club legend, and was clearly a guy who thrived in a certain environment, ie ours.

In the case of Gunn, he hasn’t proven himself anywhere, I’d personally prefer us to look elsewhere

So going by the replies it’s mibyees aye mibyees naw…
We have had players from same/worse leagues & managed to win leagues, cups & been to European finals with them.. don’t let us look down our collective nose at every player who might be seen as a step backwards.

Decent keeper and the next Scottish number 1. Makes a lot of sense

Error prone every where he’s been. Problem position for Norwich, Krul has been woeful, Gunn too - another costly mistake today.

Doesn’t command his area for a big guy, lacks concentration, slow off his line. Good shot stopper whose distribution is wild. Highly rated as a younger lad and bought for big money but if you’ve seen his career pan out, it’s far from impressive. For a 27 year old keeper he’s barely played regular first team football.

Norwich will regret not playing Cantwell just like they will for not selling him for £30m+.

They are shit and Cantwell walks into their team. Something obviously happened there.
It did and Cantwell has said so much on his instagram, he says he will tell all on what happened when the time is right.
