Bizarre Morelos article in the Daily Record

Ever since Daniel Candeias walked away from Rangers, the silence has been deafening.

Not a peep, not a word and not a clue how his best mate Alfredo Morelos feels about current affairs at Ibrox.

The departure of his pal and interpreter was a double whammy both on the right flank and for any chance of hearing from the Colombian striker.

There was a time last June when speculation was rife that the hitman had suitors prepared to fork out serious money to take Morelos elsewhere.

But there was Candeias, shoved out to speak on his team-mate’s behalf and insisting the Ibrox frontman was only thinking about Rangers.

He said: “This moment is for Rangers and he will only get better. We are good friends because Alfredo only speaks Spanish. He doesn’t speak English yet.”

The truth is there were secondary reasons why Morelos had to have a stand-in as his mouthpiece at that particular period.

There was a lack of trust, ongoing disciplinary problems and a reluctance to risk any further collateral damage by putting their biggest asset out front and centre.

It’s over two years since Morelos arrived in Glasgow and no doubt the language barrier has been a hurdle but El Bufalo (The Buffalo in English) has had plenty of time to become familiar with the lingo (slang for language).

Rangers already have the services of an on-site translator so let’s take the lack of English excuse right off the table.

Steven Gerrard insists he has no problems about getting Morelos up to the microphone to try and articulate his thoughts about a range of matters.

And to be fair, a media briefing under the watchful eye of club communication employees is a far cry from being plonked on a big black chair for an edition of Mastermind.

He even offered to go and get him a few months ago so the press could ask him ourselves whether he was happy to remain at the club. It proved to be an empty gesture as the silent one wasn’t forthcoming.

And why does this matter?

Morelos scored in each of the three league wins in September to take his tally to 14 in 19 appearances this season while Rangers led Celtic at the top of the table by two points until Saturday.

For his efforts he’s just been named as Ladbrokes Player of the Month and he was pictured with the sponsors trophy in most of the daily newspapers.

Hiding behind a lack of English or not, the man himself opted out of talking, doing a massive disservice to the sponsor and his fans who I’m sure would love to hear his views on his achievement and his thoughts about the club.

All good positive PR about how well it’s been going at Ibrox this term and his impressive start to the season. But nothing.

As a player, he has a responsibility to promote the club, whether it’s to sell tickets or highlight one cause or another. It’s an unspoken duty of the modern footballer.

Morelos may have a behaviour record which a monk would be proud of in recent months but surely that doesn’t mean he needs to continue his vow of silence

They hate him dont they?

Wow. Utterly bizarre and dripping, imo, with utter hatred towards our talisman striker. Is Parks racist ? Remind me of his last such attack on a white player.

The boy can't talk fluent English yet. He isn't confident enough to go in front of a select pack of press. Live with it Gordon Parks you utter scumbag and leave the young Colombian alone.

Why on earth would he speak to them when they've spent the last two years telling him he's the worst kind of devious, cheating, violent Johnny Foreigner hothead to roll up on these shores. One journalist said he needed 'psychological help' last season. And he's meant to play nice with them ?

Also Gordon Parks seems to have a real problem with foreigners in our game. That's both Morelos and Alessio he's waged pathetic campaigns against this season. Who's next ?

Not clicking the link but from the one line that I can see they are saying that he refused to talk to media.
WTF the lad is not confident in his English, especially with those vultures circling - cunts.

It does come across as a bit racists doesn’t it?
‘They come over here and take our money, and don’t even learn the language’!!
Actually pretty shocking when you think about it- 1970s Alf Garnet-esque casual racism.

How dare he not speak English for the sole purpose of being able to help the media fill their back page with even more negative stories about him.

I couldn't give a %^*& if he never speaks a word of English the whole time he's here. He's the best player in the league and banging the goals in constantly, it clearly doesn't matter.

As a fan I don't need to hear the standard soundbytes from a football player. Do your talking on the pitch is good enough for me.

Also why journalists want to be pals with Morelos is a big riddy, given their stories of the guy. Rather than look for the positive of a young poor Columbian guy making it as a football player we heard a lot of dross.

Can't have it both ways guys, may I suggest you shut up and leave the building.

I respect Alfredo, and any of our players/employees who treat Gordon and the rest of the press pack like the dregs they are, even more for this stance.

They will look for any angle to create negativity around him.

Right there, this prick outs himself even more as a Rangers hater than the actual article.
Derogatory and unnecessary wording.

His wiki page has interesting opening paragraph :)

The record are sounding more like a genuine mentally challenged rag everyday. Nonsensical ramblings about a footballer who doesn't speak English. Who in the right mind would read that and approve it for print. Baffling

It's been going on from the start. Remeber Jackson's article on Morelos which was littered with snide references to the drug trade - 'imports', 'trafficked', 'smuggled', 'cartel', 'white lines' 'street value', 'Escobar' etc.

Bigotry, racism. Sectarian.
But because its in a newspaper and each derogatory slur is followed up with "clever", yet even more vindictive words, and not bastard, it's ignored.

Of all the things they could have written they then write pish like that. How sad is the state of what is taken as journalism in Scotland today. He would have been as well chucking in a couple of Sevcos and predicting the next administration date before mentioning the no catholic signing policy.

“....... let’s take the lack of English excuse off the table.” These “journalists” have some sense of entitlement! Hey Gordon, how about this - maybe the centre forward who speaks poor English but whose face has been plastered all over the papers by the gutter press for allegedly playing away from home doesn’t want to speak to said gutter press? Might it be that he shares the view of most of the rest of us and thinks you are scum? Even amongst the bitter and twisted Rangers haters, Parks is right up there.

He isn’t even talking to our own media team, which tends to suggest that he isn’t confident speaking to anyone in English.
But of course they will try and turn it into a story.

They can't even work out that Alfie ,and the rest of the squad have obviously been told not to speak to the mhedia.....and the only way they can handle it , is by this nonce......or false reporting

Does that article really have those comments in brackets in it???

that’s as pathetic as the article itself.

Is Parks keeping tabs on every player in the league and how often they undertake press duties? Or is it just Alfie?

He had a right go at Warburton using the English market a few years ago while ironically we were getting knocked back for Scott Allan.

How Jackson came away from that utterly tasteless, stereotypical drivel is beyond me. Scotland always kids it's self on and portrays itself as a progressive country but then shows itself up for what the country really is like by letting articles like that get printed. Jackson is absolutely not fit for purpose along with the agenda driven pish that the record pollute our streets with.
