50% wages deferred for 3 months

Eases the financial burden on the club, with little or no money coming in ,it’s a sensible action to take.

How does it ease the financial burden?

At some point down the line the players will get what they are owed even though there will be next to no cash flow prior to this.

We have no idea of the inner workings or decision making from the club or footballing staff. How do you know if it's poor or not at this stage?
I know as much as everyone whos saying that its a great idea. Im giving my opinion as to what we know thus far.
If its a 50% deferral then i think its poor. If more news comes out on it tnen ill happily change my mind

no, this is much better for the club’s cash flow. Trust the Board there are plenty of Accountants and Financial experts on it

How can having to pay players 30% of a few months wages in a few months time possibly be better than not having to pay it at all?

To be fair it’s not brilliant is it? They’re not actually giving anything up, just collecting some of their dough a little later than usual.

As someone else said, if they furlough the staff with no actual cuts I’d be quite disappointed with that.

We have no idea how this decision came to be, how much the players/management were involved in the offers or decision making, whether they refused something more 'gracious' or not and we don't know what happens if circumstances change.

Put simply, we know very little. So why use it as an opportunity to have a go at the players?

Correct, in which I think is wrong.

Furthough the staff who will lose 20% of their pay yet the players will still get their 15k plus salary a week eventually.
There’s nothing to stop Rangers putting staff on furlough and paying the 20% shortfall.

edit: Sorry two posters already said this!

Just maybe the money they save from the higher earners will ensure the other staff don’t need to be furloughed

Juventus were lauded for this. Put the total deferral amount into a headline and it looks even more positive.

If it helps the club in the short term then I'm ok with it.

We know they’ve agreed to collect some of their money a few months later. That’s about as much as we need to know. I mean you’d imagine the idea of small but temporary cuts was discussed because that really would benefit the club much more, and well we can fill in the blanks.

I’m not having a massive go, they have contracts and they’re entitled to the money, I just won’t be massively singing their praises or kowtowing to them for agreeing to collect some of their cash a little later than usual during a crisis, given they’re all very wealthy individuals.

Rooney hit this square on the head when he asked if bankers , fund managers actors and other major earners are being hounded like football players, yes players get well paid but not the only people who do, a top footballer will be on 40 or 50% tax off their money right away.

Some are wealthy some are not

most sensible option would’ve been for players to take a pay cut and there would be no need to do that.

Not many footballers keen on that anywhere though.

As with all businesses throughout the United Kingdom and beyond, Rangers is continuing to deal with the implications of the Coronavirus pandemic.

We have carefully considered measures which ensure that all employees are treated fairly and with respect whilst we safeguard our club finances in such uncertain times. No professional football club or business is immune to the challenges of this unprecedented situation and as a club, we will continue to review actions necessary to navigate our way responsibly in such a changeable environment.

Rangers can confirm that First Team players, Manager, coaches and Executive Directors have volunteered to take a salary deferral for the next three months. Senior players and staff were keen to ensure that no Rangers employee suffered financial hardship during this crisis.

All parties volunteered and wholeheartedly agreed to defer wages to ensure that fellow colleagues could continue to be paid their salaries in full. We are proud of the leadership and responsibility taken by senior members of staff, and acknowledge the positive impact that this will have on everyone at Rangers. We firmly believe in the ‘one club’ concept and are united in our collective goal of making Rangers the very best in every facet of football life. We are resolved that the integrity of the club is maintained as we continue our focus on ensuring the financial stability of the business.

Due to the extraordinary challenges from the ongoing crisis, Rangers intends to implement the Coronavirus job retention scheme for a number of employees.

Rangers will ensure that everyone furloughed under this government scheme will receive 100 per cent salary through ‘top up’ assistance from the club with all other conditions and benefits remaining unchanged.

We are proud of the continued efforts and support of everyone at Rangers during this difficult period.

Finally, we wish all our supporters and their families good health during this time. We are especially thankful for the tireless work of NHS staff and other key workers who are selflessly working to keep us all safe and well. Please continue to follow government guidelines at this time.

Rangers Captain, James Tavernier said on behalf of the playing squad: “I want to place on record our appreciation to every single member of staff for their determination and resolve during these unprecedented events. I’m very proud of the reaction of everyone at Rangers to the challenge we face throughout the UK and beyond.

“As a team, we were adamant that we work together to do all we can to secure the future of the football club. We are also acutely aware of the livelihoods and wellbeing of our staff.

“In reality, it was an easy decision for players and senior staff. Now is the time to work with unity of purpose, as the Rangers family, to ensure that everyone works together to maintain our institution. Today has made me proud to be Rangers captain.”

Been struggling for opportunities to take a snipe at our players recently? Really squeezing this one in.
It’s true. They’re doing nothing and still getting paid. A 20or 30% wage cut would have been a great gesture. That’s all it is a loan they are still going to get there wages
