sorry a bit long winded and raking over some old ground, but, Are we the only Club that has really been punished by the SPFL over COVID ?
OK Bolongoli was “hammered“ (according to the Scottish media) with a 3 game ban and two suspended for breaking multiple rules and government restrictions.
The Aberdeen 8 got suspended bans.
Leigh Griffiths broke Government restrictions by hosting a surprise birthday (house) party for his girlfriend. She put pictures all over social media of a house full of folk drinking and the likes with no social distancing going on. This was all acceptable apparently.
Matches were postponed due to breaches, however sometimes the innocent party was punished when the games were played. For instance St Mirren had a full squad when due to play celtic but the game was postponed due to celtic and bolingoli however when the match was rescheduled st mirren were affected by COVID and had no goalkeeper, they had to bring in someone the day before the match.
Jeremie Frimpong then flew over a, for the want of a better word cheap “escort” from the USA, he assisted her in breaking Government rules by taking her out to car parks, shops and to food take aways mixing with other innocent parties, whilst she should have been self isolating. This was somehow all totally acceptable.
the SFA/SPFL then adopted their tough guy routine, 7 match bans for Edmundson and Jones, everyone thought fair enough they were stupid, not as stupid or any worse than the Aberdeen 8 or anything like the magnitude of the crime committed by Bolingoli. There was also far less people at their gathering than was at Griffiths house party, but never the less a line had to be drawn and the SFA/SPFL had to show examples would be made. We as a Club accepted this in the belief the severity of punishments were increasing as a deterrent.
The SPFL then continued with their no nonsense stance, points awarded to Clubs following COVID breaches by others.
However this was then challenged by the Clubs and the SPFL have given the points back meantime.
Then celtic fc decide they will head off to Dubai, at a time when travel restrictions are in place, we were told we couldn’t even go visit our relatives in the same street never mind different local authority areas and certainly not another continent.
on the back of this a former SPFL club chairman has came out and stated due to their actions this effectively undermines the SPFL’s decision to award points, so they are screwed.
so celtic kid on they won a quadruple treble, but when they realise their holy grail of ten in a row is gone they don’t give a fcuk for anything else and are undermining this season by swanning about Dubai sticking two fingers up to the entire nation, safe in the knowledge that the SPFL will do nothing.
The only team that seems to have suffered is us.
