Shamed Rangers trio Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey and Bongani Zungu could all be free to face Livingston next week despite being fined by cops for a recent high-profile Covid rule breach.

And Patterson is even available available for Thursday's Europa League showdown against Antwerp after being allowed back with the squad.

The three players issued grovelling apologies on the club’s internal media platform after being banished into self-isolation for attending an illegal house party this month.

But there has been no suggestion yet from Rangers bosses they will now face a suspension from Steven Gerrard’s Auchenhowie HQ – despite Jordan Jones and George Edmundson previously being punished with two-week bans for being involved in a similar late night incident at a flat in Glasgow’s west end. They were later further hammered with seven game suspensions after being charged by the SFA’s compliance officer.

Record Sport understands Patterson, Bassey and Zungu will also be punished by the disciplinary chiefs but – as their cases cannot be fast-tracked – all three could be available for next week’s trip to Livi.

That means Patterson could even be in line for a starting place, with first choice right-back James Tavernier still missing.

In a statement issued in the name of Gerrard and sporting director Ross Wilson there was no mention of club bans for the three first-team stars nor for academy kids Brian Kinnear and Dapo Mebude who were also present at the party.

Loanee Mebude, though, could be free for Queen of the South’s clash with Dunfermline and the statement read: “Over the course of the last week, we have both ensured that all our players understand our expectations when you are part of this great club.

“The players involved have been left in no uncertain terms as to the standards everyone here is expected to adhere to. It has been an extremely difficult week for those players following their admission of an error of judgement whilst dealing with the consequences of their actions.

“Our internal discussions were supported by the immediate honesty shown by the players and an appreciation they fell well below the standards we expect at Rangers Football Club, day in and day out.

“Those standards form the foundation that we have set as a club in order to achieve our targets as a team.

“The first-team squad players have now returned to Auchenhowie. We are both now satisfied that the players completely understand their obligations to our club and accept with sincerity the strong disciplinary sanctions that we have imposed upon them for letting us all down.

“We accept their apologies to the club, their team-mates and the fans, for whom we are forever grateful for their resolute support and loyalty.”

Patterson told RangersTV: “I want to apologise to my family. I’ve apologised to the players and assured them nothing like this will ever happen again.

“I’ve spoken to the gaffer and I’ve spoken to Ross at great length about the situation and how we move forward.

“I apologise to the fans. Being a Rangers fan since birth and being a player here since the age of eight, I know the privileges and I know the meaning behind the shirt and the high standards expected at this top club.”

Bassey said: “I’d like to apologise to my family for putting them through this hard time
“I want to say sorry to the players, to the board, to the manager, to Ross and lastly to the fans.

“I’m sorry for my mistakes and hopefully I can move forward and fulfil my potential at this great club.”

Zungu added: “I’d like to apologise to the Rangers fans. It’s been a great season so far for the club and my message is I’d like to apologise.”

Quite right too. We gave the other 2 self imposed bans then lost them for 7 additional games afterwards whilst no other club or their players have received more than a fine for similar or worse breaches. Idiots, undoubtedly, but consistency and us being treated differently is the matter at hand, not what we as fans think their punishment should be.

To be fair, we’d be calling for a suspension if it was any other team’s players so let’s not be hypocritical. They’re due a ban. It is what it is.
Whilst I don't disagree with your point, why should our players be punished before there is any censure aimed at them & also what are the SFA going to do about themselves after the Greece Official fiasco?
No special treatment - just equal measures.

Basically an article by Jackson calling for them to be banned as soon as possible and questioning whether Rangers are going to punish them.

He's a Judas prick.
Exactly.

There is only persons napper that zips up the back and it is none of us.

Well personally I think any player from any club who breaches Covid rules or gets done by the police for this idiocy should get a ban. Our players included. How do they learn?
I agree but that’s not been happening since the start of the season and our club now knows this given the harshest punishments were handed out to Jones & Edmundson. We punished them and THEN the SFA came in and gave them 7 games.

They have already missed 3 games and personally given the circumstances around how the SFA run out game we should be dealing with this internally.

Sitting in your house having a pizza and being fined and suspended is probably adequate enough IF you compare to going to Dubai and getting leathered in public bars and sent home etc.

Posted this in the other thread aswell but had a conversation with a Tim about this yesterday. He started it by saying the SFA are corrupt to the core cause the 5 haven’t been punished yet.

I asked what punishment they got for Dubai and he responded by saying half there team had to miss two games.
I then pointed out that that wasn’t a punishment but just following protocols as they had came into contact with someone that tested positive for covid.

Even when I said that Kennedy had publicaly came out and admitted that protocols were breached he still couldn’t understand that they hadn’t been punished in anyway for going to Dubai.

They can’t punish our players if they let the tims off Scot free with Dubai.

Anybody who has read that statement that Rangers put out will know that Gerrard has no intention of playing them for goodness sake. A nonsense article.

They've been fined by the Police which covers the legal angle and they've been disciplined by the club which covers housekeeping angle. Did they actually breach SFA regs? They didn't come in to training and risk spreading it so I'm not sure the SFA can do anything?

Neither did Jones or Edmundson iirc, didn’t stop them.

He’s baiting Rangers to respond.
I hope we don’t fall for it.

Do what suits RFC best not what's suits the SFA or hostile media pundits. The players made a mistake and hopefully have learned from it. We need to respect how the SFA have not deemed breeches serious by their failure to take action against other clubs or are we different?

At the same time, the club has asked for consistency. If that consistency is that no bans for players who break protocols (in Scotland or abroad), then we probably just accept that. There is internal punishment, which the club must ensure is also consistent after Jones and Edmondson.

This is all they have left.

Their team is in tatters, ‘the 10*’ is long gone, they have been reduced to using their media bitches to scream for bans for Rangers squad players who in normal circumstances wouldn’t likely play if everyone was available.

Their pain brings me joy.

I dont recall Rangers calling for players from other teams to be banned or suspended. Why should we be "fair" and handicap oursellves. Enough of this turn the other cheek crap. We do what's best for us.

Beast FC brought 2 positive Covid cases back from Dubai

Broke SFA rules on elite training camps with booze pics as proof and admitting it by Lennon and Kennedy. No fines

SFA personnel with similar Covid testing phuck ups. No action or penalty against guilty party for allowing it

SFA have to answer why no action on the above if they then try and ban our 5 idiots but didn’t take action on other breaches

Which is perhaps why they might not get a ban. But the fact they should have been hammered for Dubai and weren’t doesn’t mean we should assume we don’t get any punishment. This was blatantly outside of a sports bubble, which, like or it not, is the angle we will be called out on.

There’s been plenty COVID breaches by players and clubs that haven’t been punished with bans by the SFA.
Their own Linesman participated in a game at the weekend while he should have been self isolating!

Just like the other 2 currently out on loan

Still got a ban from the SFA which we failed to appeal going by Gerrard's comments last week we are working with the SFA this time

Well we are (Dubai anyone) but that’s been thrown a deefie by the SFA so why should Rangers accept/expect any punishment.

It was generally accepted they socialised together, possibly with partners, and no covid infections or transmissions resulted. They were fined by the authorities for their actions but I fail to see why the SFA should be punishing them further.

I don't think we need them right now, and I don't think they deserve to play anyway. Balogun at right back is doing well enough.

To be honest they should not be up in front of SFA until the DUbai case is ddealt with and just before the SFA themselves after the linesman fiasco. Both of these events are organisational failures and the implications are greater than individual stupidity

2 things

I thought zungu had been punted

Also we should fight any ban. Loads of players have breached regs and haven't received bans. Andy halliday is on the open goal podcast or clyde studio every week and that's ok. Hell teams have had to postpone games and haven't been punished yet were supposed to accept a ban for players going to a house with players they train with every day. Its bollocks.

Another nightmare from Jackson.

Rangers have punished the lads.
SFA done nothing over Dubai, they’ll do nothing here. The players will be free to play.
That’s even before we discuss the SFA %^*& up last week with their officials running the line when they should be isolating

To be fair, we’d be calling for a suspension if it was any other team’s players so let’s not be hypocritical. They’re due a ban. It is what it is.
True and as soon as the Dubai incident has resulted in bans being handed out fine. Till then they can if the gaffer wants them to play/be on the bench incase of injurys. (Bar Zungu but just coz he's really not played well at all)

Spot on.

We have to be seen doing the right thing therefore I'd be shocked if the club have not given the players a lengthy suspension.
