Rangers title party crowds linked to Covid case surge among police officers

Officers tested positive for coronavirus after working among the crowds at Ibrox and George Square and fans have been told they'll be locked up if they turn up outside Old Firm match.

Fans have been warned they will be locked up if they show up at tomorrow’s Old Firm clash, following a surge in cases among police officers linked to the Rangers title celebrations.

The Record has learned more than 30 police officers have had to self-isolate after some of them tested positive for Covid-19 after working among the crowds at Ibrox and George Square two weeks ago.

With fears of similar scenes tomorrow, it was speculated that the third derby meeting of the season could be postponed by the authorities.

But Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf yesterday confirmed that the match will be allowed to go ahead as scheduled, with a significant police presence to maintain order.

Last year there was widespread research that verified that millions on the streets for BLM protests did not result in a spike in cases anywhere.

Yet a few thousand Rangers supporters are getting blamed for endangering public health and causing a spike amongst police officers.

So only officers got it, but fans didnt, sound

Convenient eh.

The fans that were actually closer together are all fine, but we are meant to believe that the police that were all standing at a distance from the crowds with masks on now have an outbreak.

The daily lies about a few thousand Rangers fans celebrating a title win is utterly shameful.

2 weeks on and they are still going.

We all know this, but newspspers in general, and the Sun/Daily Record in particular are absolute gutter rags with journalists that would lie and write anything for cash

This is another example

This is getting quite tiresome.
I wonder how many cases there has been that have genuinely been from the celebrations. I haven’t heard of anyone with a new case after it all, except for these police officers and the imaginary cases they spoke of last week

What a lot of pish. Police go to dozens of calls a day, in and out of houses, in and out of hospitals, in and out of shops. They wrestle, fight, arrest people, they put their arms round others - all contact. They often deal with deprived people who wouldn’t have washed their hands since about October - people who have no interest in distancing or lockdowns. They work in places with huge traffic and haven’t been able to slow down because of a pandemic.

Yet this idiot is saying they have got Covid from Rangers winning the league.

Gees peace ya daft cow.

Known bigot who has lied about Rangers fans previously.

As per usual the headline doesn’t fit with the story. 30 Officers had to self-isolate. Big deal. Tell us how many tested positive. Betcha it’s less than 5, probably less than 3, maybe only 1.

And the 1 or 2 officers that may have tested positive could have caught the virus anywhere.

They were all standing well back from the crowds with masks on. They would probably have just as much risk of catching Covid in their station as they would have from working that Sunday.

Blaming the Rangers supporters for it is much more appealing to the Scottish media though.

So they obviously all travelled in the same transport and didn't adhere to social distancing rules in the office? This is why no one buys papers anymore!

Isn't Jane Hamilton the lying boot who made up stories about us attacking police officers at the 2016 Scottish Cup final?

She claimed the police were totally blameless and our support used their own kids to make a barricade to stop police getting to the stadium.

Clearly no agenda.

I'm in no way advocating fans turning up at all, but what could they possibly be 'locked up' for?
Might be wrong but I think it’s got something to do with the dodgy emergency Covid laws that the liars at holyrood passed last year.

You just know she will have be in contact with the police every day since last Sunday looking for 1 positive case among the attending officers so she could run this story.

She’s probably had it typed out since the final whistle of the Dundee Utd vs Filth game.

Horrible lying boot.

The fact that the record still employs her 5 years after her blatant lies over the 2016 cup final tells you all you need to know.

It would be interesting to see how the police arrived. Was it in an enclosed vehicle? With others?
there’s no definitive way to prove these police got covid at and Rangers fans celebration. Pure speculation, this is why people don’t believe “experts” anymore. Why lie? It’s because it’s political.

What kind of protocols do they have in place whereby a few test positive resulting in 30 having to self isolate? Seems to be they weren't following the rules. Certainly Helen St call handling centre dont follow rules and desks are too close and hot desking in place without proper sanitisation in place between shifts. Add to thst that staff havent been told when a colleague has tested positive ( failure to track and trace) as it would impact on their ability to handle calls

All those people there, Covid not spreading amongst them as they were outdoors... but the police who were in attendance experiencing a spike.

The Scottish Nationalist government are treating the public with utter distain when they churn out this bullshit.

The only way you could say that I'd if the officers affected didnt do anything thr days before, policed Ibrox then stayed in the house for the last 2 weeks having no contact with anyone.

No way of ever proving where they got it from
