Why didn’t the council put skips in george sq?

They knew George square was going to be rammed. They knew the best supported team in Scotland would be out in massive numbers to celebrate 55.

So why didn’t they prepare for it? I’m not saying our support is blameless. I can’t stand litter bugs. But after raves and festivals the skips are always full, so people do use them.

They normally remove benches too don’t they for large gatherings? Why weren’t they removed after the last time?

If they did it, whilst seen as common sense, they would have bern criticised by our enemies for giving our party im GS a green light.

Don't think it would have made much of a difference, but a ring of skips in the centre instead of the fence would have alleviated a little bit of the litter

Because regardless of it being sensible Saturday’s gathering was still a breach of the Covid rules and the couldn’t be seen as doing anything to help or encouraging it.

And portable toilets!

Depends what the actual event is even in normal times the benches have remained for certain gatherings i.e Indy rally etc

We weren’t supposed to be there.....aye right.

They knew what was coming, they knew there would be a mess left but they had an agenda, replace the Union flags with Saltires and nothing would be said, it would all be part and parcel of a large gathering.

Pretty obvious answer is that if they did that they'd have been seen to be encouraging it

I was in at Ibrox on Saturday and the mess around the ground was disgusting. So called fans (not all) didn’t even have the decency to protect and respect our own ground.Truth be told ,in my day to day life i’d be want nothing to do with such people,Rangers “fans or not.

Be a grown up. Take responsibility.

If you took it there take it away. Its not difficult.
Easy to say but loads of folk don’t care, I live near a cycle track and the amount of rubbish after a bank holiday or weekend is unbelievable, also look at the mess left after all that Wild Camping stuff last year.

Why didn’t the council do this?

Why didn’t the council do that?

Why are we getting so many of these threads? What point of they wanted carnage to ensue do people not understand?

If they’d prepared for it, then they couldn’t attack us for it happening.

It is easy to say and with a slight tongue in cheek.

If we managed to organise a get together, surely we should be grown up enough to organise the cleanup?

The litter was gone before day break it’s not even an issue.

Controversial, but a skip would have made for helluva makeshift bonny location (i'm showing latent pyromaniac tendencies there I know). Shouldn't have even commented.. by tomorrow it will be getting reported as having actually happened.

The arseholes should have had skips and portaloos in there.

Why? The message all last week from both Police and Govt was that we were not to congregate in George Square. Therefore providing skips and toilets would have been seen as condoning the gathering.

The authorities involved did not condone the gathering, however it was 100% happening regardless of if they liked it or not (rightly or wrongly).

More could have been done to facilitate it and ensure it was policed in the correct manner.

If they were so against it happening I’m sure it wouldn’t have taken much to bring out the large barriers which are in place at home games against them etc.

They want it to happen cause it suits the big bad Rangers narrative.

As for condemning Rangers. It is the government who are responsible for policing people’s behaviour, not a football club.

why did they leave the benches like last time when they knew the crowd would be 5 fold.

You know the answer m8.

It would have been seen to facilitate a crowd. Crowds not allowed under Covid protocol. They would have accused of pandering to Rangers fans. No kidding.
In that case they should have come out and strongly & clearly said during the week that people should not congregate in the square.

Telling people that it was not permitted would have vastly reduced the crowd and it would have been easier to peacefully disperse the hard core who came anyway.

It is quite sinister that the decision was made to allow people to gather with the intention of enabling a politically-fuelled reaction.

I think they did say that fans should not gather. Be responsible etc.

It was in stark contrast to the reaction to the Pollokshields middle class mob.

A few tweets doesn’t make it strong & clear.

A statement in conjunction with the club makes it strong & clear. Not escorting a March there makes it strong & clear.

Letting folk just assemble stinks

Ah, well in that case maybe there’s nothing the council could’ve done. It wasn’t an arranged gathering.

You are elected officials and leaders, you take responsibility.

They could have put in place all the arrangements on Saturday morning, the pissoirs and bins appear during the morning because it is going to happen.

or

they go Guardia Civil/CRS and say the riot police will be in town and they will smash and kettle anyone who comes near the square and the club and fans groups make alternative plans and let the hooligans take on the cops if they so desire.

They did nothing because it served their interests to do nothing.

Humza, Rangers, Police Scotland and Glasgow City Council said no gathering of fans.

The police did let people assemble. To me it was a failure in policing.

There were score of what looked like response vehicles in front of Ibrox. What was their purpose ?

Anyway I digress. Bins in places where there will he a high concentration of people is common sense.

But we were not suppose to gather. That includes the people in Pollokshields and the Palestine demonstration.

We made our presence a bit more noticeable.
