If that had been Alfie or indeed any of our players this would have been headlines in all the papers, top story on the tv and radio news , SFA inquiry and questions in the toy town parliament. Double standards. Instead this will be covered up , nothing surer

Was reading elsewhere on what police scot can do and cannot do in regards to policing stadiums.

If anything happens on pitch that is of concern the referee can say to police at halftime or full-time when he is being escorted off. Was an interesting read.

Whilst I appreciate that guidance may have changed over the years, how did that work out for Duncan Ferguson?

I was too young to recall the exact circumstances.

PS need to charge him ffs

Id be interested to see the Premier Sports TV coverage

The fan video clearly shows Griffiths is miles away from play and ends up smashing the flare into the crowd with excessive force

No way can they try and argue he was just clearing it off the pitch.

He needs to be held accountable for HIS actions

The flare shouldn’t be thrown on the pitch and I bet CCTV catch the culprit

The SPL and PS need to act. This is not acceptable behaviour irrespective of what chants were made

He did contact underage girls and been caught. The fact PS let hi away with that was shocking

IF they ignore this too it makes our justice system a laughing stock

I hope the St Johnstone fan who got hit doesn’t let PS drop this with no criminal charge for Griffiths

The guy is a ned and a scumbag

The only target he hit all game ,no one should let his grooming behaviour be forgotten ,the second photo of even younger girl was chilling and yet the compliant friendly media never asked any questions ...
Must've missed that photo mate, only seen the one with the wee hearts lassie. Disgusting little prick, karma will get him, hopefully Kamara will tae at the weekend

Police Scotland statement will go something like this " In his exuberance to save fellow professionals from a potentially lethal device, thrown by ant-Irish, anti-catholic elements in the crowd, Striker Leigh Griffiths boldly kicked the device into touch but, not knowing his own strength as witnessed by his two goals against England, he kicked the device further than he intended. No criminality took place from Mr Griffiths but we will hunt down the vile person that threw this potentially lethal device on to the pitch and destroy their life. As for Mr Griffiths we commend his actions and will be putting his name forward for a bravery award"

There have been numerous cases of fans being arrested for throwing flares into pitches. Shouldn’t be any difference if it’s the other way around.

Arrest him.

I wonder if that lot will now sack him to get him off the wage bill, surely he must have been on his last warning

The redacted bits might the most interesting - they might reveal what happens if an offenece takes place not covered by the laws of the game.

It's no different, the Police won't interfere at the time, but may take action later (Look at the Danish (?) lad that was charged at Parkhead after knocking the Inspector over) In the DF case, the Police were instructed to investigate by the Glasgow Procurator Fiscal (Sandy Jessop at the time IIRC)

Nah fu** that, I want him pounded for 90 minutes +stoppage time, I want him in tears having to be held back by stewards because he’s flipped with the amount of of abuse and he’s trying to jump into the crowd to square go fans, I want him slaughtered that much on Saturday that he decides he has to retire as he can’t handle it anymore.
Amen brother!!

He's pretty much disliked by all fans except the tims and Hibs, really, so he'll be getting this at every ground for the rest of his career. Fully expect he'll retire next summer or the year after and blame it on "mental health issues caused by the chanting," with Graham Spiers doing a wee fluff piece on how the nasty chants affected the thumb's family.

Most tims despise him now.

I don't want him banned before Saturday, I want the full of our end slaughtering him for 90 mins.

Nothing on the BBC, nothing from the usual suspects on social media. Don't imagine it would have been the same if Alfie had been involved.

As previous posters have said, I want him on the pitch being humiliated for 90 mins on Saturday. Odious little pr!ck..

Dundee Football Club and Leigh Griffiths would like to address a regrettable incident which occurred during last night’s Premier Sports Cup tie with St. Johnstone at the Kilmac Stadium.

Following the opening goal a smoke generator, amongst other items, was thrown onto the park by the visiting supporters. This pyrotechnic ended up back in the stand as Leigh kicked it to remove it from the field of play.

Leigh said of the incident, “It was regrettable that the pyrotechnic ended up back in the stand as my intention was just to remove it from the pitch.”

“Having just lost a goal I was eager to get the match restarted as quickly as possible and I would like to apologise for any distress caused by this action.”

The club will be making no further comment on this situation
