£10m for Morelos

RANGERS will demand a fee of around £10million before they consider doing a deal for striker Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian was a £1million recruit in the summer as Pedro Caixinha brought him to Ibrox on a three-year deal from HJK Helsinki.

And he has quickly become an integral part of the Light Blues side in recent months as he has netted 12 times in 25 appearances.

Morelos is top of the Premiership scoring charts with ten league goals to his credit and is in front of the likes of Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths and Scott Sinclair in the rankings ahead of the return to top flight action in midweek.

A number of Championship clubs have been tracking the 21-year-old’s progress this term but Rangers won’t entertain any offer that doesn’t meet their valuation of one of their most important players.

Boss Graeme Murty has already added four new faces to his squad during the January transfer window and he remains in the market for more additions as he looks to bolster his ranks for the second half of the season.

Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy signed on loan from Queens Park Rangers and Brighton respectively before the Florida Cup matches against Atletico Mineiro and Corinithians, while Jason Cummings and Russell Martin arrived from Nottingham Forest and Norwich on deals until the end of the campaign last week.

Murty confirmed on Friday that he expects more moves in and out to be completed at Ibrox before the end of the month and Rangers remain in discussions with Hamilton over a move for Greg Docherty.

Accies rejected an initial bid for the midfielder, who was absent from Martin Canning’s side as they lost their Scottish Cup clash with Motherwell on Saturday.

Swansea and Millwall have also been credited with an interest in the 21-year-old but Rangers remain keen to finalise a deal to take him to Ibrox.

The Light Blues also had an approach for Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones rebuffed last week as boss Steve Clarke insisted the offer was ‘nowhere near acceptable’.

And it is understood that Rangers have cooled in their interest in the Northern Irishman ahead of the final few days of business this month.

Murty has already allowed Carlos Pena to leave Ibrox and be reunited with Caixinha at Cruz Azul but it is defender Bruno Alves that could be the highest profile departure of the window as he considers a switch to Benevento.

The 36-year-old cast doubt over his Ibrox future last year after struggling for form and fitness following his arrival from Cagliari.

Alves is still recovering from the calf injury he sustained during the Old Firm clash at Parkhead and he could have played his final game for the Light Blues.

He agreed a two-year deal at Ibrox in the summer but Rangers are unlikely to stand in his way should he wish to cut short his time in Glasgow and return to Serie A as he bids for a place in the Portugal World Cup squad.

A nothing article,

But it will upset a few tims though If they can't offload dumbelle for 30 mulyin lol

Jesus, fucking finally! First time in about ten years (yeah, seriously, Hutton joined spurs 10 years ago!).

I know most on FF take a "%^*& the press" approach, and I do sympathise with that viewpoint, but these type of articles demonstrate that a good relationship can help the club. English clubs have mental money now. If Morelos scores 20 this season, and then 10 more in the first half of next season, it only takes one relegation threatened side desperate for a goal scorer to pull the trigger on a crazy money bid. Chairman don't have as much imagination as we think. "Who's the Brazilian fella up in Scotchland banging in the goals? Just buy 'im"

I'd also argue similar about our relationship with Hamilton (which appears pretty positive). What if Docherty was at Hibs, Dundee Utd, the Sheep etc? Would we just accept missing out on him? I know it rankles after everything that happened, but there's a logic in the 'building bridges' concept.

Common sense.

Maybe, on this occasion, an article like this is worth clicking the link and giving them the hits. It would show them that positive reporting will get the traffic they crave?

I prefer if we don't give them hits, normal service will resume the following day with a negative article, can pretty much put my mortgage on it.

Quite right to stick a high value on him. If Celtic can claim everyone of their players is £10m plus and their overrated injury prone Dembele is £30m plus then £10m is fair for Morelos.

We need to extend Morelos' deal and look to have him stay for a couple of seasons, win this bloody league and see him in the Champions League.

If he scores there and hopefully next season in the Europa groups we can look to exploit an English outfit for even more than ten million. We really need to get something from our good finds too and have them play on the European stage, rather than jump the gun in the first window that comes along.

If anyone at Ibrox is going to command that figure,it's going to be Morelos.
Maybe not today, but I think it will happen eventually.Hes young,he's good and he's going to be very good.

We should be showing our intent and keeping this diamond for at least another season after this.

New deal in the summer and a wage hike, he's proving his worth.

He may just love us and want longer here again.

I wouldn't sell him for £10 million either, there is way more to come from Alfie and we could get more financially also.

Morelos must stay.

Here is the problem with this, there isn't one quote from Rangers and by printing this it will become the focus of the usual Rangers haters in the media like Sutton and others ridiculing the club for the valuation, even though the club haven't said a thing, It will be all about how Rangers are crazy putting a price like that on his head and what has he done to become a £10m player and telling us he's only been here a short time, Newspaper articles like this is all the ammunition they need.

We've also seen in the last week people having a go at Rangers regards offers for other players and how managers are telling us it's an insulting offer and telling us what they think that player is worth, It will be interesting to see if anyone who has had a go at the club over the Kilmarnock/Hamilton players offers say the same thing that Rangers are entitled to put a price on a player in what we think he's worth.

They had a go at us about our offers but sat and said absolutely nothing about English clubs totally lowballing Rangers for Windass with an offer of £300k.

If the club had come out and were quoted as saying they wouldn't except anything under £10m then they would just be doing what the media are telling us that clubs are entitled to put valuations on players as to how much they will take, but we all know when it comes to Rangers and the media things are the exact opposite.

Nobody ever questions the value of the unwashed players or any other team and mostly it becomes backslapping about how they are right to ask for the amount they want.

There are plenty in Scottish football who would like to keep their foot on our necks.

Brazilian?

The reason Celtic sell players for millions? They tell people they are worth millions.

The reason people are brainwashed into believing the EPL is the best league in the world? They tell people it's the best league in the world.

It's just a corporate form of NLP and it's about time we caught onto that fact rather than grossly undervaluing our players.

I'd start the bidding at £10m to be frank. The boy has oodles of potential and a very good record. He even decided to have a 10 game break from scoring and is still ahead of any other player in Scotland.

No quotes, no mention of a monetary figure.
Shite article
Morelos has all the attributes to play in the EPL.

He has excellent skill and he is as strong as an ox as well as being able to hold the ball up and he knows where the goal is.

£10m is the minimum price we should be asking for.

About time.

Couldn't believe when I read the made up Bristol City story- "Rangers will be looking for at least £2m!" Wtf!

Also didn't realise he only signed a 2 year deal. That needs rectifying asap.

Would also be a nice touch if we played them in a beniffit game for the young coach that passed away ?

This will be timmy porn to counter those arguments some of our fans have been putting out regarding the valuation and wages Killie pay the boy jones.

You just know they’ll be asking if we’re paying him like he’s a £10m player.

We’ll be paying him like a £1m player. If he gets a new deal he’ll be paid his value.

Any team from the English top 2 divisions have silly money, £10M would only get these teams to the table after that we can negotiate.

At last!

No one is going to pay £10m for him of course, at least not yet, but setting a figure for him, for everyone, saying ‘this is how valuable we think he is’ should force potential suitors to think again if considering a cheeky bid.

10 Million is a bit low but would do as a starting point.

He’s still very raw but is only a young guy we should try and tie him down on a long term deal.

Just looked at his stats and between HJK & rangers hes played 62 games and scored 37 goals for a 21 yr old thats decent stats in anyones book .hes still a young lad and will get better so £10m in this days market is a good start point but looking at some of the money being spent down south on players who are not even half as good as morelos then rangers are entitled to possibly ask for more

Absolute nothing story.

The journalist had just pulled that figure out of thin air and tries to justify it with the throw away line of “Rangers won’t entertain any offer that doesn’t meet their valuation” - of course we won’t.

It’s hard to judge the market these days and we’re all quick to laugh at the figures banded about for their players. I personally don’t think the wee man is anywhere near being worth 10m at the moment.
