Make no mistake, he was a very good midfield player, a bit chunky to put it mildly, but retained possession and a good passer.

Fun (pointless) fact about Charlton: throughout his entire managerial career he never once signed a contract.

Think he became manager after big Jack, but could be wrong. He was a good player, didn't get many caps but Scotland were well of in midfield during his era.

Stein credited Murdoch with being "just about the best player I had as a manager".
Murdoch was a very good midfield player, he had a great shot on him as well as a good range of passing. Remember well his equalizer v West Germany at Hampden in 1969 from 25 yards
