Bleeding the youth in cup games?

Play youth when they are good enough. We’re not a charity case. People completely underestimate the standards required to reach the first team at Rangers, the boys that get pelters on here after a bad performance are playing at a very very high level. For a youth player to reach their basic level, they have to be pretty special.

An example was someone saying Kelly had to play at the weekend or he’d be as well chucking it. Let’s put that into context, he’s up against a Nigerian international, the record caps holder for Northern Ireland and our former captain, a player who has impressed in the English Premier League for his last few seasons and who was a regular international at youth level for England, the best midfielder in the country and Finland international, a Romanian international, a Canadian international who spent a good chunk of his career playing in the English Premier League and a Scottish international who, when fit, is one of our most important players. For Kelly to be playing in front of these players he has to be very special. Is he? I rate him highly but think he’s still a fair bit away from that standard.

If Billy Gilmour had stayed he’d be a mainstay in our midfield but that’s because he’s special, that’s the level you have to be at.
