The great Torry Gillick was born on this day in 1916.

The only player signed twice by Bill Struth.
A title winner for Everton in the last season before WW2.
The only Scottish Cup winner before and after the Second World War.
The scorer of the first ever League Cup final goal.
Hat trick scorer in the biggest ever competitive Old Firm victory.
Entertainer. Character. Winner. And with a tragic but inspiring personal life.

Humbled to confirm that Ian Stewart and myself have written a biography of this great footballer and wonderful man, and it is released in mid August. Available to pre order on Amazon at 20% off the cover price

Legend is an overused word. Torry Gillick was a genuine legend.

He was a cousin of my uncle who married my Dad's sister. She told a great story of Charlie Tully spitting on his strip in an Old Firm game. Next tackle Torry whacked him in the ribs with his elbow causing him to be taken off injured. On the way off Torry said to him "No one spits on a Rangers jersey".
