I enjoyed the OP, good satirical piece.
I'm gobsmacked though that anyone would think it genuine though

I'm as naive as they come, but even I caught on by the second sentence.Do folk actually think this is real?
Burton is not the only club this season to raise concerns regarding the standard of officiating at matches in England, concerns which have also been shared by many commentators who support Burton Albion.
Burton Albion Football Club is surprised that a key incident in our Carabao Cup semi-final game on Wednesday 9th January has not been reviewed by the Football Association in the days following the game.
In the early stages of the game with the score still at 0-0 Manchester City were awarded a throw in by the match officials, which slow motion replays after the game have revealed should have been awarded to Burton.
Given that the referee at the time awarded the throw-in to Manchester City, and the FA has subsequently taken no action to address this mistake, this tends to suggest that the rules surrounding throw-ins are no longer to be adhered to in English football. That cannot be right.
We are of course not suggesting the referee's performance altered the outcome of the game. But it did. This issue goes beyond the result of the match and we are simply raising this issue to heroically and selflessly defend the integrity of the game in this country.

In order to fully understand what is going on, Burton, our supporters, English clubs and the general football public need transparency in these matters, and we therefore call on the Burton Albion fans to intimidate and threaten the referee, as well as any match officials involved in other similar circumstances.
In the meantime, we have requested a meeting with English FA, and the Association's Head of Refereeing.[/QU4
