Captain next season

There is zero chance a new signing coming in will be made captain. That player will have zero connection to the club. He probably won't jave any idea about the history of the club and what it means ti be a Ranger. Also there is zero guarantee a new signing is going to stay fit, settle in or play well. So that idea is ridiculous.

Tav will 100% be captain next season unless an acceptable bid from Saudi or whatever comes in and Tav agrees to leave.

The only way Tav will not be captain next year is if he leaves. I do think he will go though. There's no way they could strip the captaincy off him after this long but him stay with the club.

I don't think there is zero chance.
I'd like Clement to sign an experienced centre mid, someone he's worked with previously, someone he trusts, it's not unreasonable to suggest he could make that player his captain......or he totally rates Tavernier and that's his guy?
Interesting summer ahead.

Yes I agree however until a new player makes a position his own and shows he gets it and can fit in and stay fit, I think there is zero chance..I suppose that's how I see it. Would be a massive mistake if it doesn't work and is evident very quickly. The manager would rightly start to be questioned on his decision making.

It's a hard one. If Tav, Goldson and Butland end up away I don't see anyone left who would be captain. Due to ability to stay fit and in the team.

Then we won't win the league again.
We won the league with him as captain. And got to seville. Lets see how it goes when we have a new CB, a midfield that can actually complete with celtic and forwards that can convert chances before criticising the manager for keeping the guy who has been fit the most, has the most goals and the most assists, is respected and loved by the players and conducts himself as a pro of the park, as captain.

That said, if the manager decides to strip him of it, or if he goes, then I will trust the managers decision.

Terry Butcher?

Maybe 30 odd year ago but as I said I don't see it happening. Butcher was England captain. We aren't bringing in the Captain of any national team in the top 40 of the Fifa rankings
It was more pointing out its possible to bring in a captain that had no previous connection to the club.

I'll go against the grain but I don't think "captaincy " is the issue we simply need a squad of better players on the park who aren't injured every week. If that means we buy a better eight back and someone else becomes captain fine if not and it's still tav but we've massively improved the squad and tav is still captain then that's also fine

We need a new attitude and a new freshness in the team, that won’t happen if we carry on with Tavernier as captain.

Let’s get a new RB a new captain and try something different. FFS what’s the worst that can happen? We finish 2nd again? Well that’s our place in the food chain just now and has been for a while, we have to try and break out of that

We need a fresh set of eyes to see what's what with regard to captaincy.

Tav has been brilliant for us, his stats are outrageous and he's won every trophy with us and got to a European final and was in the UEL team of the tournament.

I do feel it should be a natural end, we need to move on and start a new era.

Butland if he stays would be the obvious choice but I’d prefer it to be a CB.

Regardless, we require a new leader whether Tav is here or not because we as a club can’t tolerate another season like this, especially not next season, and I don’t think it would be great personally for Tav either.

Hopefully we are scouting players that have leadership qualities, or else what the fucking hell are the scouts doing at the place.

Personally I'd like to see Butland be Captain next season, if he's not sold for rebuild money. Out with that I'm not sure who be captain unless club bring in one worthy during summer. But has to be one constantly representing club with heart on his sleeve.
Do you really think Tav hasn't wore'n his heart on his sleeve?
There are lots of criticism you can give him but never that!

Hopefully someone new. Don't really see anyone in the current team it should be.

Sterling is a good player but don't see him as a captain.

Does it not make it more difficult making your goalkeeper captain when the captain is the only one who'll be able to speak to the referee...I thought the captain is going to be the only player to speak to the referee under new rules coming.

An outfield player must be nominated to communicate with the referee if the goalkeeper is the team captain. I think it’s only for the Euros but if successful I imagine it’ll be rolled out to other UEFA competitions in time.

No use if he’s on the treatment table more often than not?
You mean he came with an injury before he started playing, then was played in every position just about before becoming regular then out of squad from last nights game. It's a stretch to say he has been on treatment table as a consistent.

Where was he last night, ‘not available for selection’ apparently?
Maybe he’s not robust enough?

We used to have at least two or three players on the pitch we'd be happy to give the armband to in teams from the past, which is part of the problem we have right now. If Tav gets his testimonial year he'll be our longest serving captain for nearly 50 years...

Bryan Robson was England captain and Shilton was vice when we signed Butcher
But he was a ready made leader which has been missing since Davie Weir

Nothing wrong with Tav as captain, but we need more leaders around him.

Rangers sides should always be filled with leaders. Ferguson for example had Numan, Reyna, Amoruso, Weir, Miller, etc over his time as captain around him to help take responsibility. We don't have enough leaders in this squad to help provide those big moments, especially upfront.

I was sure he had captained England at this point. Maybe not full time then. My point stands. I don't see a new player being made captain.

Sterling is a right good player. Don’t see why that should make him our captain. Best to leave him to get on with playing well and staying that way. We need a born leader signed in, preferably centre back. Like we did when Butcher came in. Then Gough followed.

Personally I'd like Margot Robbie to realise I'm the love of her life.
Just about as likely as a new captain or that new captain being Jack Butland.

If we start the season with Tavernier as captain everyone is as well putting all their money on another 2nd place.

Specialist in failure

People go on about Tavernier - "Never a captain" "When do you see him shouting" etc

Then suggest Sterling who's about as in your face as a mouse!
Just because he has performed well in a few games. He's not even got a starting position - but he's "captain material" ;)

Yeah because a bit of cloth is why we haven't won the league. Screw your head on straight man.
Not the cloth itself but compare how they act in a role.

They have captains that drive their team on, get in the refs face, get in the opposition face and dominate games.

Think Barry Ferguson and then think of Tav. Miles apart in captain ability

We need a new captain, that’s a certainty. We also can’t have Tav and Goldson hanging about in the background, it’s not fair on them or the new team’s ethos going forward.
If no clubs are interested in signing them then we should be looking at getting them out on loan even subsidising their wages to allow for it.
