Could player contracts be suspended?

Interesting article here suggesting all player contracts in Scotland include a clause that might allow contracts to be suspended whilst no football.

I think wage cuts will have to be on a voluntary basis.
Doubt theres a football suspension clause, but who knows.

Depends on the player or his agent if they aren't looking for something like that in a contract it can easily go amiss

I would cap the players wages at 80% or 2.5k like everyone else. Wouldn't do them any harm

Correct, they said on the radio this morning the number of the relevant clause in the contract so it is there as a standard clause

Hearts statement today says

“Hearts - like any other club - could have invoked contract clause 12 and suspended salaries had they refused.”

I wonder why some of the smaller clubs, at least, aren’t invoking the clause? What’s the point if they don’t use it now?

I think all player contracts in Scotland are standardised to a style issued by the SPFL so there shouldn't be any "surprise" clauses in them.
