US businessman Chris Kirchner has failed to meet a deadline to prove he has the funds to complete a takeover of Derby County, the BBC has been told.

The Rams have been in administration since September 2021 and Kirchner was named as preferred bidder on 6 April.
The 17:00 BST deadline was set on Thursday and administrators Quantuma have said they are now engaging "with other interested parties".

A statement from Quantuma is expected later on Friday.

Awful news. After what we went through you hate to see any club going through the storm. Worst case scenario is that Ashley swoops in with a budget offer and things for Derby go from bad to worse.

The Derby fans will have no quarrel if Ashley takes them over. If nothing else he would have the money to keep them afloat. As for that American guy, Kirchner, what a f'n timewaster!

Something suss about the lady's front bottom imo. Seen he was at that new golf tournament and when asked he said something along the lines of it will all be clear in a few days.

If he was really trying to buy the club you would think he would be working round the clock to make it happen rather than be on a jolly at the golf?

Hopefully for Derby’s sake the don’t end up in the hands of that fat bastard

It's only a few months of ago Kirchner was all set to buy Preston North End, IMO he's just another Chancer who wants an English football team and not bothered which one it is

Unless the admins are doing something disastrously wrong, Derby should find a bidder. The CVA agreement has already been set at £21.4m. So all they need to do is find someone to pay that. It's not like our situation where a CVA would have cost well over a hundred million, £21.4m is a reasonable price to pay for a Championship team.

It's the stadium ownership that's the issue I believe. You're buying a club that doesn't own its stadium.

Ashley is probably working with him

The whole Kirchner deal was strange from the beginning, his own business is not exactly huge and its money came from a round of fundraising rather than actually any revenue.

That £21.4m includes a deal for lease of the stadium.

Unless the administrators completely %^*& this, they should be okay. Might have a 15 point deduction next season, but they’ll survive

According for the Athletic some staff at Kirchner’s software company haven’t been paid their wages yet and he is months behind on sponsorship to the Dallas Stars NHL team.

At what price though? And are they then at the mercy of the stadium owner in regards to ‘rent reviews’ in future years?

Put it this way, how would we have felt coming out of Admin with Green owning the Club and the Fat C*nt Ashley owning the stadium for example?

They’d genuinely be better starting again in the bottom tier and working their way back up the pyramid.

With the right backing, they’d be in the football league again in 10 years, whereas with Ashley, they’d be lucky to own any of their football club in 10 years time.

Of course they are. It’s far from an ideal situation, but it’s very much approaching “needs must” type of territory.

With Ashley hovering like a vulture it doesn’t look like it’s going to get better for Derby fans anytime soon.
I think if that horrible c*nt takes it over, he’ll spend to get them back into the EPL then Derby fans will witness the greedy bastard in his prime. He’s only interested in his huge payouts from the EPL. He will make them financially secure but he’s a fun vacuum. He'll remove all the enjoyment they get from going to support Derby. Lower mid table is what he dreams of.

Indeed. Horrific ‘choice’. Morris is the man holding them to ransom it appears, though I’ve only kept a passing interest in the case.

The Mel Morris hold on the stadium must be the issue thats holding bidders back.

Good club with good supporters all in the hands of folk who care more about money than anything else and with Ashley hovering - jesus wept!!

Ashley would be a disaster for Derby, same as every other club he has been involved with.

Coventry never owned their stadium and look at the mess they ended up in. Used a stadium outside of the city for a while but are now back at the original stadium. Were denied access to match day receipts.

Was a great wee trip, the FF bar was like a sweat box right enough

Have to say i have a new found respect for Rooney
Same here...
The easy option for a man of his wealth would have been to grab his coat and say f*ck this for a shitshow; and no one would have blamed him.
Rooney has shown great dignity, character; and no little leadership skills in the face of adversity.

Things you thought you’d never read about Wayne Rooney.:)

In fairness though, it’s not a bad summation. He’s shown a side to his character that most of us didn’t think existed.

Does that figure include monies owing to HRMC? and also what is owing to previous manager and his coaching team also the former captain was awarded a figure in excess of seven figures for unfair dismissal

remind you of a certain big handed wa.nker?

Derby County are club I've always had a soft spot for since way back.

I sincerely hope for the sake of every fan of Derby that please, please don't let that fat parasite Ashley get his grubby paws on them.

I wish them all the very best.

According to SSN the administrators are refusing to deal with him.
Surely that's illegal?

If he's their only chance at avoiding liquidation, then they need to hear his proposals or they have abandoned their duty as administrators.

As long as they can show that they believe his option is worse than others on the table then they will be fine.

I doubt it’s “will not speak to” it’s “will not deal” because they know what he’s put on the table.

I can still see him winning out long term.

Know he likes litigation, he'll get Derby if he wants it.

The Glazers at manu did the very same mate. Not a jot did they outlay - all loan monies.

Awful what is happening to them, very decent club.We had two good away days down there, they have a decent stadium and support.
