Euro 96

Remember being buzzing for it at the time - but when you're a kid you're going to be that anyway. It's the first tournament I truly remember following, doing all the score charts etc.

Sadly, watching the re-runs of the tournament during first lockdown last year has shown it to be a case of misty-eyed nostalgia. Bang average tournament and poorly attended outside Scotland and England's games - which was surprising, considering tournaments are always pretty much sold out these days.

The Scotland really should have skelped Switzerland that night. Super passed up some unbelievable chances before scoring that screamer. As for David Seaman letting in the goal? Load of shite tbh and his words in subsequent interviews are clearly tongue in cheek. But it gets the reactions all the same.

Nah. Euro 2000 was a far better tournament.
They were both superb due to the spread of quality teams, something that's lacking badly in modern tournaments where they are bloated to fit as many nations in as possible.

The England and Dutch sides were both superb and wouldve been worthy winners, the German's seemed to grind it out rather than outplay everyone else. At they often did/do.

It's almost the same amount of time elapsed from Euro 96 to this one, as there was from the 66 World Cup to Euro 96. Don't that make you feel old!

Seaman let it in because he knew we should have done them at Wembley and didn't want to give us another chance. To think I was giving Gazza pelters after that goal (well disappointed undertones) and now meh!
We should have done them? Outside the missed penalty, we didn't play them off the park.

Yep, the F. A were a bunch of greedy b's if you ask me. They could have given tickets out to local schoolkids.

Anyone who thinks seaman was to blame is a raging nat who blames the English for everything, disguised as Westminster.
There’s also the fact that England put four goals past the Dutch that night - not exactly consistent with the idea that England conspired to put Scotland out.

As others said, Scotland blew it. The national side always seems to have a mental block getting past the group stage of major tournaments.

Hopefully Euro 2020 is the time that changes.

It was just another of the typical scotland moments. The saying so near, yet so far was made for us.

Even the womens team took it to a new level at their world cup.
