Maghera is not quite 10 miles away so fairly close but I've just checked there and Dean Shiels was born in Magherafelt. I'm assuming it was the Mid-Ulster hospital.
He may well have been brought up in Maghera right enough.

I always thought Dean Shiels was from Upperlands? Could well be wrong. I know he lives in Coleraine now for he’s in my work most evenings sporting the full Rangers tracksuit lol

Spot on mate. He lived in Upperlands as a kid. Played football against him when he attended Ampertaine primary school in the village. Couldn't get near him
