Four successive years of group stage football

Considering the first season back in Europe , when we were there and back quicker than a fag and booze run, it’s quite remarkable to be in Pot 2.
Stevie G has got us back to competing beyond Christmas, fingers crossed we go at least one better than last season.

An achievement.

Certainly doesn’t feel like it tonight after two poor performances against one of the weakest teams we have faced in qualifying under Gerrard.

This is the area we need to measure progress. How we do in Europe. Gerrard has set a high bar but we should be looking to get out the group and at least to last 16. Hopefully last 8.

That would be progress. We should never fall into the trap of dominating in Scotland and being happy with that.

Group stage football was an achievement the first 2 seasons Gerrard was here, now it should be considered the bare minimum

I'm getting used to group stage football these days. Realistically the Europa is our level just now. The CL would have been nice but seeing Malmos group we would have finished bottom with maybe a couple of points at best.

The Europa we can at least challenge to get to the latter stages. Build the coefficient and hopefully continue to get automatic CL for the champions going forward and push on from there

Financially it’s been hugely important to us.

I'm reading on here we still loose 10 million in europa. Europa football should be the one the budgets set for. How does financial fp work ?. Could we potentially find ourselves having to cut 10 million from the wage bill?. 10 million would be a player to a Madrid etc. For us it would be catastrophic.

Shows how far we've come, remember the ecstasy of Halliday and Gerrard at the airport when we done it the very first year against ALL the odds. Outstanding achievement, here's being positive that we can correct our form and have a successful European campaign

had to work ourselves there each year from the bottom
We've 100% earned the right to qualify for the group's, playing so poorly twice and still progressing is down to the hard work prior. The coefficient and seeding has reaped it's rewards this year, 56 and auto entry will be another reward to reap

Our excellent work in the previous 3 seasons has seen us through, with that performance I doubt we'd have got through previous years qualifiers. It shows the importance of the co-efficient.

This is the first time it’s felt a bit anti climactic because our aspirations were to reach the CL, but a fourth successive EL group stage qualification does provide a vital boost to the coffers (even more so this season now that we can welcome back full houses at Ibrox) as well as continuing to improve our coefficient.

That’s certainly worth crowing about.

it was gutting to go out to malmo especially with the circumstances of the tie but if were being honest the europa league is our level and its a tournament that has been good for us recently. At least half the teams in the champions league are no better than the teams in the europa league so the standard is strong

We were howling last night but you have to give credit where due.We have punched above our weight in Europe in recent seasons.

No matter the performance tonight the coaching staff deserve a huge congratulations for that. Don’t think I could have believed it was possible before they took charge.
Amen to this...... It’s that impressive that we now expect to beat or compete with teams we had no right to. Hopefully we have another good campaign in the group stage. Big plus is we have Roofe back now as well.

Great achievement. As good as the CL grouo stages would have been for the money, i think we would have been fodder and we will have some great nights at Ibrox in the Europa. This is our level.

Our two main objectives at the start of every season should be;

1) Mount a strong title challenge (we don’t have a divine right to win it)

2) Attain European group stage level

These should not be seen as achievements, more as the minimum requirement.
