Gerrard's record against them is not spoken about enough

Before folk jump in, I'm not saying bring him back, that ship has sailed.

However, since he left, our record against them is nothing short of deplorable.

He got what these games meant and what you had to do to win them. We were structured, disciplined and counter pressed them superbly.

Yes, he didn't get it right every time (2-0 loss at Ibrox with Defoe up front a very bad one) but a record of 8 wins in 13 is something we would kill for right now.

We don't look like we hate them the same way they do us and are feared of their squad.

Clement needs to summon some of this sort of attitude (easier said than done with this squad) starting with the cup final, or he'll be the latest manager with a short stint as our manager.

It should be recognised if not we'll witness them dominating again as our record since he left is appalling.

Helps when you have better players. Morelos, Bassey, Aribo, Davis and even Karmara had some key performances in these games.
This is the team that beat them 1-0 at Ibrox (Jack goal)

McGregor
Tavernier
Goldson
Worrall
Halliday
McCrorie
Candeias (Coulibaly)
Arfield (Flanagan)
Jack
Kent
Morelos

Morelos obviously a massive upgrade but is the rest of that team really any better than what we have now?

And that was against a far superior Celtic side.

Celtic are used to getting everythig their own way. God, one goal from us today was enough to make them scatty.

Gerrard created the best coached team I've ever seen and Celtic could do nothing about it.

That's why we have to give managers time.

Gerrard's team would have won that without breaking sweat today.

How much time?

Gerrard had us coached well and a result against Celtic within 6 months.

Since Gerrad left, we no longer control the midfield . We've won 1 important OF match (SC semi 2022) since then in about 14 matches (I'm excluding the 3 0 dead rubber game last season).
This is it exactly
Gerrard for all his faults understood the importance of a midfield, Clement appears to be a manager that simply bypasses midfield & it's killing us in these types of games.

Instead our fanbase tried to talk it down when he left.

He understood to win the games against them, then you needed to have some control of the game, especially the middle of the pitch. He largely dominated these areas under him positionally.

Our current manager instead encourages us to lob it up the park constantly and to have disorganised press that just lets them run off our midfield.

He also saw them for what they were, showed them zero respect and had absolutely no fear of them. Before and after him, we've behaved like shitebags in most games against them.

You can’t in one hand say this team are full of bottle crashers and also not recognise number of those games under Gerrard were closed stadiums

Much like when we only seem to start playing when 0-2 down, lot easier to play without a crowd on top of you

It's set up and tactics really

We do not dominate the midfield both gio and clement more so clement seem to by pass the middle I get we are hamstrung with players we have but

He has to shut the space down make them do the running to try find space and after 60/70 mins Start to press them

A massive thing is not having a striker like Alfie that can hold ball up and win fouls ball then just come straight back at us as well

Yes it’s better.

Until we treat them with the contempt and hatred they deserve we will continue to deliver second prizes. Silva high fiving and giving help to scum players with cramp pizzed me off today aswell. Show them no mercy sweep the bxstards legs!

Gerrard hated them as much as the fans do, and having grown up with a British football culture knew exactly how to treat the games. That rubbed off on the players and I’m sure informed our preparation and set up for the games.

Our current manager doesn’t and won’t ever have that hatred or context. Certainly if he doesn’t realise it at this point he’s a lost cause.

Just hating the opposition isn’t going to win you matches. A proper game plan and structure will win you matches.

Long balls to Cyriel Dessers won’t.

You have to recognise that the fixture is a unique fixture in the world of football, like Boca vs River is the only one that comes close

If they go into games wanting it more than us, then they will win the vast majority of them.

Look at what SDF has said above, 2 wins out of 25 in OF games since 2016 when Gerrard was not the manager.

Anyone can win a one off game, especially at home.

Gerrard also was able to sign the like of Katic Kent and Arfield right away - players we all took to.

I don't disagree that we can't wait forever though, mate.
That’s really the benchmark for Clement then - he has to make four or five initial signings that instantly impact the team like McGregor, Goldson, Arfield and Kent did.

If £4.5m is already committed for Diomande that’s a big pressure on him being a success in that regards. And we can’t pretend today he had a a good game.

Simply because it includes Tavernier, Goldson and Barisic.
Sticks in some people’s throat that these 3 had the beggars licking their boots.

The ball was continually shelled over Diomande's head. Kinda hard for a midfielder to make an impact when the defenders just hoof the ball downfield every chance they get.

Ha fuckin ha, Gerrard had worked them out after a couple of games, Clement is still scratching his head.
There's 2 points a different in their records after 3 games against the scum.

Had Tav not gave them another free goal at Ibrox, or if Goldson hadn't inexplicably gave them a penalty for no reason then they would've had the same record.

I await all those suggesting that he wasn't our only manager in recent times that could regularly beat Celtic.

Totally fair comment and I agree with it. It’s not necessarily Diomande’s fault.

But whether it’s Dio not being as good as his price tag or a result of the way the manager sets up, it’s the same result - £4.5m (which is a decent chunk for us) on a player that is not effecting the game enough. The hope is that does not continue into next season.

Clueless.
Wee guys should stick to computer games, Gerrard’s title win is growing in gravitas each season.
The king.

Gerrard won 8/13 old firms

Since he left we have 2 wins out of 14

Even worse when you realise one of those 2 was in extra time and the other one was the meaningless game last season

Havent beat them inside 90 mins in a meaningful game since the helander game nearly 3 years ago
