Gers History - The Rangers Link of Egypt’s “Sheikh Of Commentators”

From that article it would seem that Hammy Latif must have been the first Rangers player to ever have played in a World Cup match. The story I always remember about him involved Willie Ormond prior to the World Cup finals in West Germany in 1974. Scotland were due to face Zaire and Ormond went to watch them a few months before it when they were playing Egypt in Cairo. Ormond was on his own and when he was sat among the crowd he thought nobody knew he was until he got a tap on the shoulder and heard a voice saying, "Hello Willie". It was Mohamed Latif.
