Has GVB learned the lessons of SG or is he ripping up gains already earned?

it looks increasingly that Gio is attempting to significantly change what was a relatively successful range of tactics.
The lack of an effective high press , the reduction in full backs getting forward as much , the siege approach when we go a goal up against diddy teams etc.
Anyone else see this and if so why ?
