Improving the Squad (Player Suggestions)

Thanks for the update, seems to be doing well and i know who you are talking about, i think i was thinking about the smaller guy that scored those fantastic goals ? we had been linked with both around the same time.
Armin Hodzic ? Ex Liverpool

I don't care what folk say, I would agree with the comment on Naismith, he's still scoring goals and is the very type of player who much like Morelos, works for the ball outside and links well midfield to front. But obviously, I would love to see the type of goal scoring midfield player who is creative but shoots from distance. However much money needs to be spent on one, get one in.

There are three others I’ve seen that could be further options so your thought on them would be appreciated, and none of them should cost more than 1.5m to 2.0m euros -

Luka Ivanusec - Loko Zagreb Attacking Midfielder 20yo.
Eetu Tervainen - HJK Striker / Second Striker 19yo.
Elvira Koljic - Craovia Striker 23yo

Ivanusec & Koljir have already played for Croatia & Bosnia respectively.[/QUOTE]

These 3 would be superb probs about 6-8m in total
Sign Kent permanently or another loan
A centre half added to replace Worrall leaving
A left back for competition for borna
Hopefully grezda a pre season in him kicks on
Jones coming in as Extra wide option
Rossiter And Alnwick as midfield and GK cover also after loan spells

Happy with that,

Actually a really good post mate, enjoyed reading it as there is a couple players there I don’t know about.

Thread ruined by suggestions of Naismith,

Random question - remember the young Lithuanian we had on trial about 4 years ago? Did he amount to much?

Vlad gutskovskis?

That’s the one! Latvian, done nothing of note since.

Don’t suppose you remember the Russian lad we had for a couple of years who was supposed to be off to Real Madrid? That was a strange one.

I would take Halkett from Livingston as a free from Livingston as our 4th CB next season.
The same thought had crossed my mind as well at times, and as ridiculous as it may sound-we'd have a player who would be less likely to struggle on plastic pitches.

I never thought that should be a consideration when considering signing a player, but that's how insane the game is up here at times.

Nothing happen with that AEK Central Defender we were interested in mate ? Is he still at AEK ?

Kristoffer Peterson - Winger - Out of contract at Heracles.
Graeme Shinnie - Anywhere on left would be good back up - Out of contract at Aberdeen.
Steven Naishame - Makes such a difference to Hearts - Out of contract at Everton.
Elvir Koljic - ST - Craiova.
Greg Stewart - Out Of Contract - Birmingham.
Jake Hastie - Young Winger - Out of Contract - Motherwell.
Craig Halkett - CB - Out of contract - Livingston.
Vasilios Lampropoulos - CB - Out of contract - AEK
Marko Livaja - ST - AEK.
To name a few.
It takes the right recruitment not stupid money to find players.
Our scouting department needs to deliver in the summer bigtime.

Good ideas on there mate. And as you say, we don’t necessarily need a lot of money, if we use the OOC approach well enough. We could drastically improve the squad for less than 10m if we are sharp.

Honestly no clue mate,I can't even remember his name tbh-but we'll need two CH's in the summer regardless.
Halkett and one other of a higher level to challenge Katic wouldn't be the worst for us,although the defence unless Tav leaves is the least of my worries tbh.

Lack of creativity as we've discussed many times mate,is a different story altogether I'm afraid.

Yes, can’t remember his name either but I know it’s worth a right few points on scrabble

11 in 14 in Romania now. 23. Not to be sniffed at. Good in the air, which helps over here. Went to Romania for 450k euros too.
If we need some strikers in the summer he would be a good bet maybe not throw him in straight away but has shown he can score goals test their resolve 1 million bid see where it goes

Agree. A different option, and maybe we could afford both, is that 19yo guy at HJK. He looked really talented. Different type but we need horses for courses.

Some good suggestions there, although Peterson's club actually have the option of an extension when I looked him up on transfermarkt so a fee would be involved in that one.

If the fee isn't mental should still be do-able for us though.
Halkett,Shinnie,Koljic would all be good as squad players to save funds for three players of a much higher level as well.

In an ideal scenario we could maybe sign a list like;
Prevljak,Ivanusec,Peterson,Halkett,Shinnie,Koljic-and an attacking midfielder as good as we can possibly afford with whatever funds we have left.

Greg Stewart should have been signed in January.

He can change games like Saturday and is a much better option that Candieas against teams that sit deep against us.

He was a standout for a Killie and doing really well for Aberdeen.

Noooo!! don't sign SPL players or Scottish players, they will never improve your team!!
sign Croatian and Albanian peahearts like Barisic and Grezda, they are the guys who win you leagues.

I'm never sure of the point of these threads, its truly just a case of people plucking names out their arse.

Did you see the HJK game Cav ? They had a couple of talented young players. Really good second striker ( Eetu Tervainen ? ) and a guy that made a couple of really pacy supporting runs a la Windass. Scored their second.

I did mate, the lad who was the second striker did look very good on that occasion too but I'd like our scouts to be watching him on a regular basis to see if he's good enough to play that role to the standard we require.
Forgive me for my scepticism, but I thought Davis would still be able to cut it after seeing him boss an International friendly-I think we need to be doing our homework is all I'm saying I suppose.

I've seen lots of debate on here recently trying to conclude whether we are going to need another total rebuild in the summer; like many others, I believe we only need a few additions of serious quality.

I've listed some players that I've been an admirer of for some time who I think would turn us into serious title contenders, I've tried to include the obligatory YouTube video to accompany each suggestion but in some cases I couldn't find any.

These are players who in my view go straight into the first team and bolster our weaker areas but I've also included some players that would be players for the future. The defenders are the best example of this as I believe that Goldson and Katic are more than good enough as a pair but we are going to have to replace Worrall and McAuley.

I'd be very interested to read opinions on these guys, arguments in favour of the total rebuild or look at other suggestions.

Striker.

Michael Frey:

This guy should be our top target this summer regardless of Morelos leaving/staying, his workrate is unmatched from any other player I've seen in the game today. He joined Fenerbache in the summer and he hasn't quite found his form from Zurich. He doesn't have the most prolific record but he'd replace Morelos within our system perfectly and should Morelos stay, they'd compliment eachother immensely imo

Myron Boadu:

Being one of the most promising young players in the Eredivisie, he'd be out of our reach when it comes to signing permanently. He had bad luck with a summer injury and as a result hasn't played much this season, at 18 he needs to be playing so I believe a loan deal would be more than possible, maybe even for 2 seasons. He reminds me of a prime Defoe.

Midfield.

Lovro Majer:
(The #10 we've been crying out for)

This one would have to be another loan signing, he's viewed as one of the key players for the future in Croatia. He got his big move to Zagreb after rejecting numerous clubs across Europe and sadly got injured at the start of the season. We'd be a very attractive option for both him and Zagreb given we not only offer Europa League football but also have a few of his countrymen in our squad to help him settle easier. I believe he'd be one of the best players in the league once he hit the ground running, he has everything.

Junior Sambia: Obligatory video not found. (you can see multiple individual highlights if you search his name)

This is another player I believe should be a top target, he would cost £4-6m but we'd double our money within a year.
He can play anywhere across the midfield line to a higher standard than anyone currently in our squad and is also more than adequate cover at fullback. He's skilful, strong, pacey and direct, he has the energy and drive we've been missing in abundance.

Barrie McKay:

I considered leaving him out as this as it will possibly stop people taking this seriously. We all know him well and will have differing opinions but I don't think he should have been let go, given that we could probably secure his return for less than £1m I think it's a no brainer.

I believe he is the most technically gifted player we've seen at Ibrox since Barry Ferguson, people seem to forget how many chances he created for a toothless attack that just couldn't bury them.

Defenders.

Rick Van Drogelen:

This is probably the most unrealistic option I've listed, I doubt we could tempt him away from the Bundesliga(should HSV come up) unless we seriously broke the bank.

As a left footed central defender, he'd give us a very balanced back 3 should we keep exploring that shape. There's not much else to say other than he's already a very solid defender and 20 he's only going to get better.

Players for the Future/Backup Options. Lots of people will turn their noses up at these players but these are the type of signings that have Celtic so far ahead of us currently, It's time to stop giving them a monopoly on local talent and invest in our future.

Greg Taylor - I believe he could possibly challenge Barisic for the left back spot immediately, at his age I really believe we should be snapping him up now before he gets a move to England and becomes out of our reach.

Liam Lindsay - Another left sided centre back, he looked very solid at Partick Thistle before leaving for England. The level he plays at might deter people but he's still young enough to develop and given that he's shown he's a good player in the SPFL I think it's an inexpensive option that we'd be silly to ignore.

Lewis Ferguson - Aberdeen will inevitably be difficult to deal with here but he's another one that will inevitably get a move to England and we'd regret not moving for him, there's been endless arguments over him being good enough but he's a player that has already shown great drive, energy and eagerness in big games, he'd thrive playing at Ibrox. Him and Greg Docherty could be our future.

Lawrence Shankland - Another player that has caused heated debate, a late bloomer that has a terrifying goal scoring record this season. He'd be a very inexpensive investment and we'd be guaranteed to profit should it not work out.

Playing to much football manager.

Agree 100%. I do trust our scouting team & im sure they’re working through an exhaustive list now.

To be fair we're not claiming to be professional scouts,or even someone with specialist knowledge.
I doubt any of us have coaching badges or would know how to vet a player's suitability to playing for such a great club as ours.Barasic and Grezda have talent, but that isn't always enough to be able to carry our shirt as many have realised but time will tell as always.

Just some folk on a football forum talking about footy and shooting the shit together, which forgive me if I'm mistaken- is kind of the point in the first place?

I know you''re admin so you've got to be looking in,but if you don't like the thread maybe just say nothing?

Just a thought.

How much do you think Frey would cost Necro ? He looks ideal for Scotland as you say. Won’t he be on a big wage in Istanbul ?

That Van Drogelens a cracker too mate. Seems really strong commited & pacy. Guess we’d need to spend a fair bit there on him ?

Some good suggestions there, although Peterson's club actually have the option of an extension when I looked him up on transfermarkt so a fee would be involved in that one.

I like your suggestions aswell.
But Prevljak will only be possible on loan as he's out our price range.
Ivanusec Dinamo Zagreb have first dibs on Lokomotiva's players so Dinamo would have to allow him to move to us he looks a prospect and Grigo brought him to our attention.
Also i liked the Bockaj (Left footed) guy from Osijek.
We need to be smart in recruitment this summer and we have to sign the best quality players we can sign 3 or 4 quality would be good. The other guys mentioned as you said would give us a stronger squad and we can get alot of them for FREE so why not take a gamble on them.
I think the board will give Stevie £9m which will be some of the income from the sale of Morelos in the summer and also season ticket renewals and a new sponsor (Hopefully). £9m should be more than enough to sign good quality also i expect another 3 loans aswell.

Agree RFC. Based on a lot of the guys comments on another thread we could easily lose 10 players between OOC, loan returns & others who just won’t cut it, so we really need to try & pick up Bosmans like McGregor & Arfield this season. That allows the boat to be pushed out for a couple maybe ?

This season we had to build next season we NEED to win the league.
So signing players like this will allow to go and find 2 or 3 real quality and creative players that we need.

Greg Taylor is a must. That boy is a player

Lewis Ferguson would do us a turn aswell but we have no chance doing business with them.

Barrie McKay suggestion you can go put in the bin

But we need alot more quality in every postion not too sure where the £ for that comes from

Agree. I wrote down our midfielders today & counted 11, incl guys out / in on loan. There are 4 or 5 that probably won’t cut it for different reasons, so maybe we let Them go & bring in 2 / 3?quality guys ? The wages might balance out.

Good economic player Taylor. Wasn’t he a bear as a boy ?
