Scottish Junior Cup
Saturday, 25th September 2021.
Largs Thistle 5 v 3 Larkhall Thistle
KO 2.30pm
Weather: fine and clear.
Crowd: excited.
The first half was mainly Largs pressure which resulted in a two goal lead with both goals coming from former Rangers wonder kid, Owen McGinty.
A direct McGinty free kick rattled the right hand post like a tuning fork and bounced to safety with the keeper well beaten. Almost a home hat trick for McGinty!
However, just before halftime, Larkhall with their only chance of the half, scored.
Half time: 2-1.
The second half was all Largs at the start and in 53 minutes McGinty scored with a net bursting shot to complete his hat trick.
The Larkhall goal keeper had a few amazing saves.
McGinty could have doubled his hat trick as he has the top strikers’ skill of knowing where the goal is and has a rocket shot.
Maybe Steven Gerrard made a mistake letting him go!
Sewell scored number four for Largs and the home side were cruising. Or so they thought.
Larkhall made only their second serious attempt on the Largs goal and scored. Shortly after it became 4-3 and questions were beginning to be asked. The home crowd were getting jittery.
However, William Sewell spotted the Larkhall keeper off his line and from 40 yards and from the touch line placed the perfect shot into the left hand corner of the net.
Final score 5-3 and into the hat for the next round of the Junior Cup.
Soup was lentil and was excellent.
The steak pies were, as usual, very tasty.
