Killie fans provide bumper crowd v Rangers in 1954

Not a great season in our history, and the last one for Bill Struth.
Kilmarnock were a Division B team back then, and had already held us to a 2-2 draw at Ibrox.
Our 3-1 victory in this replay, saw us face another Division B team, Third Lanark, in the next round, and it would take 3 attempts to get through that round, a 3-2 win after 0-0 and 4-4 draws.
Our opponents in the Quarter Final, Berwick Rangers, were from Division C (North East), and we ran out comfortable 4-0 winners in that tie, in front of 60,000 at Ibrox.
That set us up for a Semi Final clash with Aberdeen.
The other semi final saw Celtic face Division B Motherwell, with the prospect of a Rangers v Celtic Final, which would be the first in 26 years since that famous 1928 Scottish Cup Final.
110,939 turned up at Hampden, as Rangers suffered a humiliating 0-6 defeat in that Semi Final!
Aberdeen won only 2 of their final 6 games that season, both in Glasgow, both against Rangers.
They lost their other 4 games, and finished in 9th place in the 16 team league, 1 point behind Rangers, who finished in 4th place. (4th through 8th place all finished on 34 points).
Celtic would go on to win the Double that 53-54 season, their one and only League Title win in the 28 years between 1938 and 1966!

Great picture by the way!
