Long Balls

35 long balls last night between Goldson and Lundstram.

Why so many? Lundstram is normally around 6/7 however last night was 20. Why is this being deemed an effective tactic?

Because we have no midfield?
IMO we went long last night due to the poor condition of the pitch and it being dry and bobbly.

Not that it done us any favours going long

We’d be better sending butland to an NFL team during the break and practise with a QB and just have him launch the ball up the field and cut out the defence and the midfield save all the fuckin about and probably save a few goals as well with defensive %^*& ups.

Tav to Lundstrum ,Lundstrum back pass sideways to Goldson, trot forward 4 or 5 paces and and big punt/ slice out the park, and repeat and repeat and repeat.
What an total disgrace thats about the best passage of play we can muster a joke and im sick of seeing it.

The evidence shows we now have a manager who believes in this type of play and this long ball tactic becomes more apparent each passing game
We have no midfield control over games whatsoever
The only control we have is at the back and that is down to the majority of teams being comfortable with us having that posession
Then look at the game v the Bheast when they pressed us first half & as we don't play with a midfield designed to control the game there was no outball for out defence
It is really worrying moving forward under Clement on this basis as he appears not willing to change this system

Our passing for so called professional football players is atrocious, we struggle to string 4-5 passes together unless it’s the dreaded Goldson - Lundstram - Souttar triangle
At least with Gio the passing sometimes involved the full backs so the horseshoe rather than this triangle:rolleyes:

Yes is the answer, and there’s no pace for the long ball to chace.

It's pathetic. It's a mix of hit and hope from the bottlers in the team, as well as lack of direction and tactics from the manager.

Goldson must still be looking for Kent and doing long balls to Turkey because he just hoofs it up the park and nowhere there and it goes out for goal kick each time..

Dundee were clever. Retreated into their own half and left Goldson free to allow him space to receive the pass, wander a few steps...and then launch it. 1 great pass in 100 isn't what you'd expect a full time professional to produce - and be accepted.

Clement needs to demand that others take the ball from Goldson and take it forward.

And ffs, speed things up a bit and maybe stop this constant passing across the back 4 nonsense when it's achieving nothing.

The football we play is the same garbage we watched under GVB and Beale, no improvement under Clement, slow boring rubbish with lots of long balls.

If the end result of the long ball was a shot on goal I could just about bare it,last night total shots on goal was in the region of 8.

We dont have a barry ferguson or steven davis type player who would take the ball anywhere on the park and get the rest playing. As much as i hate the long ball garbage nobody in our midfield demands the ball and too busy hiding.
