With it still being some time before neutral venues were selected for the semi-final ties of the Scottish Cup, Rangers were forced to play at Vale of Leven's ground at Alexandria.Vale of Leven swept aside the threat from Rangers to win 3-0 and advance to the final.Or rather they didn't,for they refused to turn up when the SFA turned down requests to move the final owing to illness and a family bereavement,the cup was subsequently awarded to Queen's Park

On the same day, goalkeeping legend Jerry Dawson died. Born in Falkirk in 1909,he joined Rangers in 1929,eventually replacing Tom Hamilton as first choice goalkeeper. During his time at Ibrox he won five League titles and two Scottish Cups, as well as helping Rangers during the second World war lift two Scottish War Cups ,two Summer Cups and the Southern League. His last game for Rangers came in the friendly against Moscow Dynamo in 1945.
