Cowdenbeath came mighty close to pulling off a major upset, for having already become the first Second Division side to win at Ibrox they were 30 seconds from eliminating their opponents. Eddie Rutherford equalising to force extra time. Only a final strike from Sammy Cox enabled Rangers to avoid a major embarrassment and advance into the next round. This match also saw Central Park establish its record attendance, a total of 25,586
1956 - William Struth died at the age of 81.He had joined Rangers from Clyde as trainer in May 1914,replacing Jimmy Wilson following his death. Following the tragic death of William Wilton in 1920,William Struth was elected manager and over the next 34 years became perhaps the greatest club manager in the history of the game, rivalling the equally memorable records of others such as Matt Busby,Jock Stein and Herbert Chapman. During his spell in charge,Rangers won 18 League Championships, ten Scottish Cups, two League Cups,18 Glasgow Cups and 20 Glasgow Charity Cups.As impressive as this tally undoubtedly is,William Struth's chief contribution to Rangers was his ability to unearth talent from almost any quarter of the country, developing a network of scouts and informers who alerted him to the emergence of any possible talent. His network also worked in other ways for the benefit of Struth, advising him if any of his players stepped out of line whilst they were out of site of Ibrox - out of site they may have been, but never out of mind, and any player who did step out of line could expect a fierce broadside from the well known disciplinarian. In 1947 he was elected to the board of directors, finally relinquishing the manager's post in the summer of 1954

Van Vossen's goal at Rugby Park is how I remember him; he was a good player.

my mum and auntie were at the players lounge at Ibrox one match, first off they moaned there was no players then my uncle had to point them all out. Then all they went on about was how good looking PVV was :) its the only compliment i heard anyone giving him :)

1999 was a real heartbreaker, and sadly it was a significant result as it turned out. Should have been out of sight even before that free kick

One of Ferguson’s greatest ever performances. He gave Matthäus and Effenberg the run around that night.

1956 If there was a Rangers version of Mount Rushmore, the one man who would be a unanimous choice to be there would be William Struth.

1991 Soaked to the skin!

91 - my first away game. The only thing I remember was Huistra's goal looped over the keeper and St Mirren went 1-0 up. Oh, and it was pushing down with rain.

99 - Should have won, I think Bayern had their 3rd choice keeper playing. Typical Rangers in Europe not taking our chances.

1985 - After a good start to the season losing to Dundee was the start of the slippery slope for Big Jock. Lost 3-0 to the sheep at Ibrox the following week IIRC.

1988 - I’ve got a memory of this being live on TV. I was a bit young to go to Hampden on my own so very pleased to be able to watch it regardless.

2011 - I’d pushed that result out of my memory.
After a few years of McCoist taking cup games and draw after draw, or extra time and even penalties - and this unavoidable feeling that Walter Smith intervening at times was pivotal to Rangers staying in the competition in some of those games then the first domestic cup tie for McCoist on his own ends in a defeat.

It was a bleak omen.
