Options for a shortened league next year

if the league isn't ready to start in august which is hard to see, then they will probably need an interim format for the league. any split won't work as it would be too many games. perhaps they will go for a top 14 or 16 for a 26 or 30 game season. or perhaps they just drop the league cup. with the euros coming up and playoffs etc they can't really have a full season

They will almost certainly drop the League Cup, whatever scenario they come up with though, you can rest assured it will be a clusterfuck.

European/ international football Will be dependent on international borders reopening that could be next year at the earliest

Depending when they're able to start might just have to play everyone home and away. I cant see this situation improving enough until autumn. All players need a good pre season to get everyone back up to fitness

If it is still 12 teams then they should reduce the number of games.

Play each team home and away then have another bonus round of 6 pointers. Home and away against your nearest rival.

So 1v2, 3v4, 5v6, 7v8, 9v10, 11v12

Would potentially satisfy the TV deal demanding 4 Old Firm games.

League if 16 and ditch the stupid fuckin split once and for all and then we might see some competence from the muppets at the spfl

Probably too much to ask in the once sentence but aim high

Winter break going would be the obvious one. If we were to have a bad winter though that could impact ability to fulfil fixtures.

next seasons money tv deal has been signed it is much better than this season in regards to revenue. This season will be null and void IMHO before next season is compromised.

Another consideration here, not often discussed, is the potential loss of income to clubs for a shorter season.

In our case if say only 12 home games on season ticket and prices cut by 1/3, that's a loss of income after VAT taken into account of approx £6m and that's before all other sponsorship, tv deals, hospitality etc taken into account.

Play each team home and away, none of this 4 times malarkey. Drop replays in cup games and no winter break and breaks for international friendlies.

Easiest way to shorten the league is to make any team who think they are Irish go and play in the Irish league

If they do try to finish this season maybe a idea would be to have more subs allowed on .Remember teams will be playing 3x a week to finish the season and be coming back from a lengthy lay off

Problem with dropping the league cup, is that its a money maker for the teams down the leagues. It may cost a bit to pay off sides for their losses.

Play all cup games midweek. Have no European break from December to February so could spread the Euro games out a bit more to accommodate that.

I'd be against scrapping the LC. We need a trophy.

All of Europe needs to agree to this approach
UEFA need to lead this and tell the clubs what is happening - other wise you end up with inconsistency. Don’t forget the Euros have been moved back 12 months so whenever this season starts, it needs to end in May to allow the European Championships in June.

Thers’s now at that you could have a scenario where the English league finishes in mid April somehow, but the German in the middle of May without the FAs causing a stir with UEFA ahead of the competition starting.

As with whether league campaigns for this season as halted, resumed or abandoned, UEFA need to take charge and govern the sport in Europe.

The bigger problem that needs address for next season is the European tournaments.
Who is going to be selected for what tournament, what is the criteria going to be and what the deadline for selection is going to be.
Only then will associations know what the need to do in order to bring this season to a close.
For example.
A couple of friends of mine, both what you’d call “dyed in the wool” long time Rangers supporters, season ticket holders for all bar one of the last thirty five seasons, with all the to be expected staunchness, have caused chaos amongst the group by declaring that they don’t care if septic are awarded a tainted title.
However, there is no way they’d agree to septic getting access to the CL and the lottery win this gives.
How you separate these things, I do not know and neither do they.
If the idea is that septic get awarded the league AND a CL position, it’s a no-goer.

And the deal is agreed on 4 games against them. If we change that then sky may wish to renegotiate

ideally change the way tv broadcasts games and allow fans to watch all their games. Buy a “season ticket” to watch only/all Rangers games. Not going to happen though.

still think it will be next year before they allow 40 k+fans congregate in such a small proximity
