Our complete lack of effort today was shocking.

Once again we failed to compete in the middle of the park they showed more desire and application we were our usual petrified on the big occasion when winning was paramount

Yet again they wanted it more. Hungrier and outfought us and they are not that good. Just good enough to beat our group of comfortable players.
They take shots all game long, we don’t. Shots cause carnage and uncertainty in a defence. You get breaks from them too. We don’t do that.
We need players who want to win, we have well payed comfortable players, no leaders.
Clement has to build his own team. Fit, strong, hungry winners.

Lost count how many times they just ran off us today.

How many times did any of our players actually sprint at full pelt?

How many tackles did we actually put in today?

The chance were Kyogo missed from about 6 yards they had the ball for about 2 minutes and not one player even put a tackle in.

We did that thing of sorting of closing down but having no intention at all of actually winning the ball.

Absolutely inexcusable in such a big game.

C’mon man remember Gerrards first training clip video ‘we won’t jog over slowly to close a man down, we play now to win the ball and we close down with intent’

Obviously ive paraphrased but that was the message and it was aimed firmly at a group of guys who were just trying to get by doing the bare minimum.

The complete opposite today again.

The only way they beat us is if we sit off them and our only chance of we winning is get right in their faces.

So we stand so far off them that Scales is 40 yards from our goal with no player near him.

I have no idea how you can set up so defensive but leave so much space.

It went exactly the way we all thought it would, there were no surprises, maybe how long we left it before fucking right up with the OG. They are shite bags, we’ve seen it time and again and until the core and more are changed we will suffer the same and Clement will be getting sacked. I said it at the St Mirren game we need players with the attitude of Gogic, not his ability, but attitude. Until we have something like that we will be run over and watch another team play football while we stand around looking at each other wondering who should have made a challenge as we concede another stupid goal!

It’s like Groundhog Day every time we go to the piggery, we seem paralyzed by fear. Big Phil has seen this and seems unable or unwilling to change it

It was so clear that they wanted it more than us today and we accepted that.

How anyone can say it's quality that's the main issue I don't know. You need to battle regardless of how good you are and we never do it against them.

Simple answer is that our players are not good enough. They are not great but they have far better players than us. We are paying the price now for the decision of Ross Wilson to give Beale the Mangers job.

Think about our teams that went there and were under so much pressure, yet won.
Winners in the team who refuse to be beaten like Goram, Gough, Hately, Ian Ferguson, John Brown.
Thats the type of character we need in our new signings. They are out there, Clement has to find them.

I thought Silva done OK today and done a fair amount of defensive work but when he's back he falls asleep and the opposition players just walk/run off him leaving a massive amount of space. That's how they got the 1st goal but it happened repeatedly throughout the game.

There's a real contrast in the energy, effort and desire of their midfield and forwards vs ours.

Dessers is a spectator even when the ball is in his vicinity, whilst Lawrence and Lundstram have no legs at all.

Dessers should be absolutely burst after all the running he did today.

In reality he could probably play another 90 minutes now as he barely moved.

He also missed an absolute sitter because he shat it.

Good connection and it's a goal but he shuts his eyes and fluffed it.

I’m sure most are familiar with the phrase “hard work will beat talent if talent doesn’t work hard”…..unfortunately we have a squad riddled with guys with a lot less talent than they think they have who don’t work anywhere near as hard as they should. This results in becoming second in a two horse race year on year. A major clear out is required which becomes more increasingly difficult when CL money ain’t heading our way…

Noticed a couple of our players ambling back when they were attacking Laurence and Silva to name but two.

Thought the tackling was OK but agree that we seemed reluctant to close them down quickly but I assume this was some sort of tactical instruction.

Hard to give proper assessment due to Lundstram's sending off but overall was very disappointing performance.
Seems to be the same instruction as the previous games, hold them for 70 mins then press them. Pointless.

We're at the Moneyball (film) A's team stage of things - a small fish biting at the heels of the big teams, and within our own fish bowl - a second-run (sadly).

I can't see a major way out of that, as with the team in the film - money won't come into the Scottish game, both OF teams will get battered about the CL for fun with the EL the only possibility of some european success and money.

It's a sticky situation, that without a major shift to some form of British league - won't change.

See this garbage he's spouting about three cup finals, four cup finals etc. what a lot of mince.

Those players see this as a last 32 tie at best. Euro mentality we have, where draws etc away from home are seen as a positive result.

If Clement doesn't work out, we need someone who focuses on the league and just pams off Europe.

Sick of the every game is a cup final sh!t.

Clement said in his post match that the players looked well off it in the first 30 minutes, he needs to rip into the lot of them, aside from Dujon, Silva and Butland.
It was f.ucking gutless today.
Going to the Cup Final, hoping he can change the mindset around.

And we have to stick to. If they're fit to come on and play, they're for enough to start.

All of the managers we've had seem to have the fear of putting a player in like Yilmaz for instance who is bang on 100 percent fit.

Apart from Syerling
It is a cultural thing within our current squad. Movement on and off the ball is shit. We have a lot of players that are not athletic enough. We need good players brought in this summer but there needs to be pace and physical presence
Apart from Sterling we lack physicality, energy and pace all over the park.Shows up in the big games e.g against Benfica and again today was a glaring example against a mobile but shit team..

We closed them down so much they had 11 shots before the red card and 7 were from the edge of the box.

They walked through us again today.

Which players gave everything and played well that first half with 11 men? None of them.
I didn't say we closed them down enough. But we dud win the ball back plenty, particularly and surprisingly in the 2nd half.

Thought most of them were playing fine before the first conceded.

Aye mate, the whole Ridvan thing is a bit of a joke, he's either fit to start, or not, he looked absolutely fine when he came on.
Pandering to the players will only see you getting sacked.

McGregor is their best player by a long way.
Unfortunately we sit back and let him move freely from one end of the pitch to the other.
Ive said before that if we man marked him he would be a lot less of a threat to us.
We give them too much space as things stand at the moment.
It’s not rocket science.

Don't agree with this take at all. We were the team pushing at the end with 10 men, effort isn't the problem. We just have too many average players. There's not one of our midfielders that gets in their team. Until you change that we will continue to fall short.

Clement is too cautious with players imo and gives too much info to opposition in terms of players fitness. He constantly comes put and says players will be in the squad but not ready for the full 90 mins etc. If i am the opposition hearing that, i'm gunning for them knowing they arent 100%. Tbh im just scunnered with the lot of them. Apart from sterling and butland the rest can go. Unfortunately we will probably need to sell butland and sterling to find a complete rebuild.

Lack of effort being confused with lack of pace.

There was plenty effort today.
Maybe being harsh considering the second half with 10 men but that first half they just jogged about and shuffled about the pitch. There was no intensity in our play apart from the goal and we didn't engage them until they played it into our box.

Romantic pish.

Their players/team are better than us at the moment. Running about really fast and diving into challenges plays into the opposition hands, but aye as long as we do that then all is acceptable...

The bheast players always seems to want it more than our players. It's unforgivable. I lost count of the number of times we lost 50/50s and players in blue could be seen jogging slowly back to defend. From today only Butland and Sterling from the starting 11 can look themselves in the mirror. It's unacceptable and must end. Get rid of the usual suspects now.

Ok mate.

Forget about quality for a minute...did we match them for passion, desire, effort or intensity today?

Imo they didn't and that's not acceptable regardless of how much ability you have.

As a club we lack leadership and we have done ever since we won 55 and Gerrard left.

Why forget about quality? That's what matters in the main.

We lack the overall quality to beat them, so say results. But yeah, charge about and that'll show them....

Not having that about Silva. Thoughts that was his best game for us.

It's a good effort from you here :D

"Charging about" as you call it clearly worked for them today as they over ran us.

The amount of 2nd balls we don’t win is a disgrace.
Plus Lawrence pulling out the 50/50 with taylor showed the effort our players were putting in.

I'm not Gerrard's biggest fan but the organisation and tactics in these games under him couldn't be further away from what we are watching now.

They weren't charging about. They didn't need to, as they have the quality to keep possession, use it and hurt us.

Lundstrum did that. I thought the rest were fine in the main.

We started the game exactly the way we all said if we did , we would get beaten . Immediately on the back foot giving that wee bug eyed shite , the freedom of the piggery. The only thing that saved us from a hammering was they're not great , but let's face it .they don't have to be. We make / made it far too easy for them. going into these games terrified , half expecting to get beat , we get bullied in every department. I've said it plenty times on here , we've got to start showing them the same respect they show us , then we might get somewhere.
