Rangers demand compensation from Dundee

RANGERS have demanded a five-figure compensation sum from Dundee over the two postponements at rain-hit Dens Park.

SunSport can reveal Gers want reimbursed for the cost of their two pre-match stays in St Andrews — as well as their travel expenses.

Sky Sports have already won their compensation fight after incurring costs in excess of £30,000 for two aborted broadcasts in March and April.

Now Gers have taken moves to recoup their expenses from Dee managing director John Nelms.

Dundee have already been fined £150,000 — with £120,000 of the figure suspended — after breaching Hampden rules on the condition of their playing surface.

They were also ordered to fork out £36,429.60 “as compensation to the SPFL for television and pitch specialist costs

Now Dens chiefs have been hit with a similar bill from top-six rivals Gers as the pitch feud continues to rumble on.

Ironically, the Dark Blues revealed this week they plan to spend a six-figure sum improving the troubled surface.

They have already raided city neighbours Dundee United for a new groundsman, and will now undertake significant work after their final home game of the season against Killie on May 18.

It’s understood the new Dundee investment on the surface is larger than the £186,000 fine.

Dee boss Tony Docherty said: “We want the best surface we can have, and it’s great to hear the level of investment the club are putting in to make sure it will be the case.”

Dundee admitted five breaches of SPFL rules at a disciplinary hearing on April 18

Tayside Fire Brigade fired a cheeky online dig at their Premiership neighbours as they kicked-off at Riverside Park on April 10.

The Dee are now set to apply for planning permission to build a new training complex and pitches on that site - as well as invest in the current surface at the Scotfoam Stadium.

Long-term the club is aiming to relocate to a new purpose-built ground at Camperdown.

Who makes the decision to award us any compensation?

No, it's not "pathetic".

Dundee FC failed, TWICE, to provide the conditions conducive to providing a pitch compatible with the the rules of the competition required by the league's governing body.

Why should Rangers pay the cost of the deficiencies caused by Dundee FC?

The peasants manky fingertips are all over Dundee's shenanigans involving us. We play and beat them before we played Celtc at Ibrox, and the pressure was all on Celtc to get a result. That the fixture was repeatedly cancelled was beyond negligence.

I did genuinely think about this at the time but more so for supporters clubs outlay.
What about them?

Why were we staying overnight in St Andrews tor a game that started the following night. Seems a massive waste of money when it’s at most a 1.5 drive that could have been done in the morning/ late afternoon of the game.

Yep. Or even a Dundee Travelodge.

I wouldn’t use it to explain why we lost the advantage we had (and I ‘m not suggesting you are, either), but the whole situation most definitely had a negative affect. The optics were extremely suspect.

We might have chance for the 1st postponement since the game had an early kick-off for broadcast reasons and can recover costs from the home club under the rules but it is own choice and expense to stay somewhere the night before or after for the midweek games

Next seasons shambles of a pitch will be blamed on big bad Rangers taking money from Dundee, who planned to use that to pay money to fix the pitch.
I’m joking but it’s almost predictable.

Talk about kicking them when they're down, we should be supporting fellow member clubs and assisting them for the benefit of the league so they can improve their situation and improve the competition.

Id have said once upon a time. Cunts, hope they go to the wire.

Good.

They have already had to pay fines to the SPFL and Sky, so paying us for our out of pocket expenses is only fair.

The bigger the fine the better, it will make not only them, but other clubs as well, think twice about neglecting the pitch
