He was convicted in 2017 and appealed the case or his brief did and finally lost the appeal Italian justice isn't exactly known for being quick but his defence has another 45 days to appeal again hence the length of time getting convictions and convicts to serve time.

from what I understand from a quick read up they usually refuse extradition requests but have sent an Italian terror suspect back to Italy would they send a sex offender who knows.
