Ryan Kent new Rangers deal close as Barry Ferguson tips winger and Alfredo Morelos to commit to Ibrox - According to Barry Ferguson

He may well be correct in this instance...

Barry Ferguson reckons Rangers fans are in for a massive title boost with both Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos signing new contracts.

The talented English winger and the Colombian striker are both into the final year of their contracts with many supporters worried about bids coming in before the window shuts at the end of next month.

However, boss Gio van Bronckhorst insisted earlier this week that he was very positive over Morelos committing his future to Rangers, revealing that there had already been good discussions. Now Ferguson says Kent is set to follow suit and put pen to paper on a fresh Ibrox agreement.

The former captain told the Daily Record: "Not only has Kent been playing but he’s looked as sharp as a tack in the games that I’ve watched. He certainly hasn’t been going about his business like a guy who wants to be elsewhere. On the contrary, he looks fit, hungry and bursting to get going in a Rangers shirt again.

"So I’m more and more convinced that neither of them will be going anywhere soon and, if that does turn out to be the case, then it could be the most significant thing that happens this summer where the title race is concerned.

"Two weeks ago I went out on a limb by suggesting Morelos would sign a new deal to stay at Rangers. Far be it from me to say ‘I told you so’ but I must admit to being delighted the other day when Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed an agreement with the Colombian is now very much on the cards.

"I predict Ryan Kent will also be putting pen to paper on a contract extension before the end of the transfer window. Don’t get me wrong, until the market shuts down nothing is set in stone. If a huge bid was to come in for either one of these players then the situation could change at the stroke of a pen right up until the clock strikes midnight on deadline day.

"But my hunch is that both of them have decided they want to be part of the plans at Ibrox so don’t be surprised if they both commit their futures to Rangers on long term deals.

"Obviously, Morelos is working his way back to fitness at the moment but it’s very telling Kent has started every pre-season game. If Gio thought he was going to lose the Englishman this summer then I’m sure he’d have used those friendly matches to start planning for life without him."

Van Bronckhorst has already secured a bumper new deal for Connor Goldson while veterans Allan McGregor, Steve Davis and Scort Arfield are also tied down for another season as Rangers try to win the title back from Celtic. The Dutchman has also brought in seven new players.

At least four could be in the starting line-up at Livingston tomorrow with John Souttar, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Antonio Colak all set to be included with the Livi clash maybe coming too soon for Ridvan Yilmaz and Ben Davies and Malik Tillman likely to be a sub.

Time is ticking away for them to sign new deals.

Would love them both to stay as i don't fancy trying to replace both in the same window, if they don't sign though we have to sell before the window shuts.

Barry will still have plenty contacts at the club. I’d assume he has been given a tip, otherwise this article will make him look pretty stupid.

No comments on that last sentence please…

Would be a good pre-first game of the season to get an announcement on both today.

Yes - wishful thinking on my part!!

If he signs on for a bit longer, Kent needs to up his numbers and improve his end product.

I have a feeling Matondo may perform better than Kent in that respect this season.

Will be interesting to watch that 'competition' develop.

I think we will get a triple announcement at some point of Tav, Kent and Morelos. It’s pretty much accepted Tav has signed so why would we wait? We might go triple announcement, 3 over the course of a day or a week, but I think all 3 will happen.

I don’t see us linked with anymore wingers, nor Kent being linked away.

Talk of Sakala possibly going on loan (not sure how accurate) but all sounds positive for Kent staying

There’s plenty noise coming from the right places around the deals now.

I reckon we’ll see a triple announcement with Kent, Alfie and the skipper smiling at the thought of their deserved wage rise and being able to not have to worry about their gas n leccy bills this winter.

Be almost impossible to replace Alfie at this stage.
Unlikely to get another winger in either, so it'd be good news if they both committed for another few seasons.

Get it announced before we kick off the season proper tomorrow.

We don’t need any distractions at all. Want everything settled and focus

Am I the only one who thinks he's been given some sort of tip off and isn't merely just talking for the sake of filling column inches?

Barry is a former captain of our club, and teammate to our manager & goalkeeper. Of course he'll know a little more than your average punter on the street.

I'm sure there was another ex-pro who said similar about Goldson weeks/days before goldson signed on again. So maybe there's something in it.
