Scottish refs told to ignore the new sub rule in powderkeg fixtures

SCOTTISH referees have been told to ignore the new substitution rule during powderkeg fixtures.

IFAB changes state subbed players should now leave the field at the nearest point and walk around the pitch to the dugout.

But SunSport can reveal SFA chiefs won’t ask refs to implement this new rule during Old Firm and Edinburgh derbies and other highly-charged games.

The new IFAB ruling also states player safety and security can be taken into consideration by officials – and the SFA have assured top clubs their stars will never be made to run a gauntlet of away fans.

Refs will instead allow players to go off via the halfway line as normal in certain fixtures.

The SFA are determined to avoid any possible flashpoints after a series of incidents shamed Scottish football in recent years.

Old Firm captains Scott Brown and James Tavernier have both been attacked by yobs, while Hearts keeper Bobby Zlamal was punched during a derby.

Specific games and stadiums are deemed to hold more risk than others but refs have been told to use common sense in games.

But Hampden chiefs have also warned clubs that they can’t abuse the allowances being made to ensure safety.

Players will be told to leave the pitch as quickly as possible with punishment for time-wasting.

Shame this is the limit of a referee's common sense during 90 minutes.

What a sad little backwater this country is when our players safety is a genuine concern. It’s a sport, ffs.
Scotland is streets ahead of other countries in Eastern Europe for example where it is common place to target players with missiles, riot and hurl homophobic and racial abuse - but we say bad things about the Pope/IRA so we are the worst in the world.
THAT is what makes Scotland a backwater society.

Makes sense tbh imagine playing at the legodome and rangers player had to go off at far side and having to walk all the way round and having to take abuse from that lot

In all these games opposition player have to go round the pitch past opposing fans when warming up what’s the difference ?

I don’t give a shit what happens in Eastern Europe, this is Scotland. Where since Hibs over exuberance our players have been at risk off and on the pitch and no one cares. They can’t even go on holiday or training without some filth abusing them. It’s a sport. Our players should be able to go about their business without getting walloped.

Shouldn’t really have to worry about this at Ibrox given how much space you have between the pitch and the stands. Would think it’d be more Tynecastle and Pittodrie and smaller tighter grounds like that?

You can can every penny our players won't be allowed to walk to the half way line away to the sheep or Hibs. We'll be told to walk around the park.

100%

Seems fair enough to be honest - as long as they're also talking about our games at Easter Rd and Shittodrie.

Absolute fűcking nonsense. Do wingers have to stay a certain distance away from the touch line then?

The snp has stoked up a political war in our country where it is now unacceptable to be a Protestant unionist and as the club who represent that demographic we are hated more than ever. We also admittedly have our own eejits who rise to the bait and get themselves in bother.

So in other words when the sheep come to Ibrox they can still do their time wasting antics then? What’s the bloody point
The ruling is they then get booked for time wasting if they abuse it. Would be interesting if a player on a yellow card, decides to waste time in applauding the fans rather than leaving straight away. Would the referee have the bottle to show a second yellow therefore sub can’t come on. I would hazard a guess Rangers player yes, anyone else, a stern talking to.

Its a two way street, we have elements of our fan base that do the exact same..... cant look at everything through blue tinted glasses.
Fans entering the park on a bi-weekly basis it seems now, only takes one moron to do something that tarnishes everyone else.

I don't see Ibrox being an issue for safety as such, maybe a few balled up bits of paper thrown and some choice language, more the likes of OF games, Derby matches etc I think its just plain common sense that the fan bases of the clubs cant be 100% trusted to behave like decent human beings so as such need to be treated accordingly.
Player safety should always be paramount.

So the SFA who have a seat at the table at IFAB who make the laws of the game will ignore this.
Not so much, the new law includes safety as a reason for players to go off at the halfway line already. See, for example, https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/news/updates-to-laws-of-the-game-2019-20/ which includes:

A player who is being substituted must leave the field by the nearest point on the touchline/goal line (unless the referee indicates the player can leave quickly/ immediately at the halfway line or a different point because of safety, injury etc.)

The SFA are just giving advice to refs that for some fixtures, that safety exemption should always apply.

This new rule was intended to cut down on time-wasting. If the SFA are saying it can be ignored then they have to do something else to reflect the spirit of the edict.
How about getting on top of time-wasting from keepers, at free-kicks, shies and subs - from the first minute? It’s not difficult to do, just warn all the players before the game and then do what you said you’d do.
No risk to anybody and time-wasting reduced. Or, is this too difficult?

Agreed. Players who have went down injured and required treatment have been walking round the pitch for years in all fixtures

As there seems to be a different rule book for Rangers' players, will this common sense instruction apply to both rule books?

That is a fair thing to do - there is an exceptionally high chance of players being assaulted. Mainly our players. However, Hearts, Hibs and Celtic's support all have previous in assaulting players.

free reign for every club to time waste against us.
looks like they are also told to ignore certain other rules in games involving rangers

"Powderkeg fixtures" =

Celtc v Rangers
Aberdeen v Rangers
Hibs v Rangers
Hearts v Rangers

etc, etc on so on and so forth... you get the idea.

They all hate us, because they are all jealous of us.

The refs have enough trouble attempting to stick to the rules and apply them properly then this amateur organisation are telling them to ignore them.
So who gets to decide what a "powder keg game" is ?

LOL they can leave at the half way like “to avoid the gauntlet of away fans” but they still allow our players to walk 100 yards through a gauntlet entering their dump on old form days, sensible.

Fair enough ill buy that.

So long as any sub happening, the exact amount of time taken to wander off the pitch is added on plus 10 seconds. Say from 85 minutes on
